Need A Favour?!!

Postby icmelerlover » 21 Oct 2010 20:26

Hi, is there anyone heading to Icmeler in the next few days that would be prepared to do me a big favour?!! :) I would love to suprise my boyfriend with a birthday present but with the season coming to a close I don't think the turkish postal system wouldn't get it to him in time? Just wondered if anyone lucky enough to be going would be happy to take it for me?! It won't take up much suitcase space!! :)
Cheers

well i certainly wouldnt. do you really think someone would be stupid enough to take out a package to a foreign country without knowing you?

perhaps this thread should be deleted?

Very fair comment, and of course I wouldn't ask anyone to take an unknown parcel to a foreign country!! I would ensure they knew exactly what it was they were taking to him!
I apologise if my post has caused any offence, but don't really think it needs to be deleted?! But if that is the case, then so be it

I dont think your post is offensive icmelerlover!!!
I took a strangers engagement ring back to Turkey in August as a favour and they trusted me enough to do that.
Obviously the item would be checked before the person took it to Turkey.
Its just common sense really, hope you find someone who can help.

Is this what modern day society has made people be like nowadays? Suspicious and untrusting? I honestly don't think that any members on here (or in fact anyone anywhere) will agree to take anything abroad without knowing exactly what they are carrying. My apologies if offence taken but that is quite insulting our intelligence. What happened to camaraderie and good old fashioned kindness and helping each other?
On the other hand I would beware when sending a guy gifts etc, I did for at least three years until I discovered that so were many other ladies!

If I was going I would do it as long as I know what it was and saw it and the reason is that when we first went to Icmeler my daughter forgot to bring home he favourite teddy. John and staff were fantastic and telephoned Blue Rainbow up to see if the maid had found it. She had and it was on reception so John asked a family that he knew were staying there if they would bring teddy home and post it on to me which they kindly did and I have always appreciated that so I would do anything to help somebody out. :D

Thanks for the reassurance that I wasn't completely off the mark for thinking it wasn't unreasonable to ask!! The only reason I did is that people seem pretty friendly and genuine on here, and i would have no problem in doing it for someone. And I was never asking someone to take something for me without telling them what it is! Would love to be able to take it myself but not quite that simple is it! :)

Oh my goodness-no chance he he! I was just happy to have a friend there (?) but was not ready for a long distance romance, nevertheless when someone declares their undying love for you it is quite flattering until you find out there were many more, I will give gifts to friends wherever they are but it made me think that someone could take him seriously. Even if I did fall head over heels and be crazy enough to part with huge amounts of money I would never want to be in Take a Break! I would be too ashamed, have they no pride? There are good and bad everywhere, I daresay there are men here who would have a few women on the go at once if they think they could get away with it.

Hi, That's ok. As long as you are aware of sometimes what goes on! I have seen many things there that would make you hair curl. :)

Hi Dinky_Cath,
After reading your last message about your packages and the time they take please could you give me some advise about sending parcels to Icmeler. What is the best way and do you know the cheapest way. Your advice would be gratefully recieved as i have just sent 2 big parcels out for the Doghouse and it cost me a fortune so hopfully you or any other kind person reading this might be able to help. Perhaps JT has some ideas ?
Thank you in advance Wendy

I dont know about bıg/heavy thıngs really. I have just used Royal Maıl. There ıs a prıce tarıff on the Royal Maıl websıte, perhaps you could work out whether ıt would be cheaper to send several smaller packages rather than a bıg one?

I saw a programme about holiday scams a few months ago and it was a teddy that had been used and had been brought back to the UK in someone's luggage as a favour and it had contained drugs within it. This scam was used by a person that had seemed to be really lovely. Unfortunately people such as these always seem to be so nice and that's how they get people's trust. You don't really know if the member on the forum asking the favour is genuine or not, so I agree with Ian&Jo that you just can't be too careful (isn't it awful to have to think like this!). Even if you know what you're taking you may not know what's "inside" it without pulling it apart and depending on the present it may not be possible. It's such a shame that we just can't take people on trust, but just imagine the horrendous consequences if you were caught taking in something that was illegal. There is a big difference between posting something and actually taking it with you to the airport. We travel with Onur Air and at check-in we're asked if we're carrying anything for anyone else, don't know what happens if you answer "yes". Perhaps someone else can tell you the procedure.

Sorry icmelerlover to sound negative but would you risk it when you think about it? I've sent parcels in the past that have taken a fortnight but at other times have taken just a few days. Hope your present gets there in time for your boyfriend's birthday.

If there was anything smuggled back in that teddy then the bear would have been shaped like a vodka bottle
