How much do people normally pay to see a doctor?
To let you understand the situation the Mrs had a cold when we went out last year, it moved onto her chest and for some reason by the time we got home it had developed into mild pneumonia that took a while to shift.
This year she had a cold again and could feel that the same sort of thing was going to happen so she decided to visit a doctor. We went to the one next door to Buffalos to be greeted by the woman from the clothes shop next door who told us to sit whilst she phoned the doctor. A short time later a woman turned up who told us she was the doctors assistant and started asking about symptoms. The Mrs wanted to know about prices before we went any further and we were told 120 tl for the consultation, 200 tl for any drugs that they had in the surgery and unknown amount for any drugs they had to buy in. But don't worry about your insurance as they would make up the bill to cover any excess!
This all seemed a bit pricey so she decided to visit the chemist next to the Bonjour. As we made our way there the woman from the clothes shop came after us with a note that said "You only pay for consultation, medicine is free".
We decided to carry on to the chemist anyway and after a chat with the pharmacist he decided she needed 2 lots of antibiotics at a cost of 45 tl. And they worked.
Anyone else had to use docs in Icmeler? And how much of a rip off was that one trying to scam us for? Certainly for the 200 tl drugs that suddenly became free!

Always use the doctor that your rep offers

Everything should go through your insurance and definitely don't use someone that a shopkeeper is calling for you as that shopkeeper will get her cut too.

well there's no set price for treatment in turkey,, its more like how much they can con out of you ! two years ago i was staying at the marti resort and my son who was 3 then picked up a bug from there swimming pool, so a trip to the inhouse doctor resulted in a £90 consultation and £60 at the chemist,, im sure some of the bag full of stuff the chemist gave us bore no relation to his illness, after 2 days we decided to stop the medication and gave him only fluids to flush out the bugs which seemed to work, it wasn't until our departure day we were aware that the good doctor had instructed the manager to remove my sons passport ! yes you guessed it another £90 visit to say my son was fit to fly. you cannot put a price on ones health especially a child's,,, and sadly they know this, lucky for us we were in a position to pay this up front and claim back later minus £50 excess. having been going to icmeler for ten years now im well aware of the daily scams that go on there and that's why i never go to the barbers or hire a motorbike or car to name but a few, overall its still the best holiday destination on the planet and i will continue to go there , the mayor has almost eradicated the constant hassle, maybe its time he started to eradicate the daily scams !

We too went to that doctor the year before last, when my husband developed an ear infection. He was given some antibiotics and painkillers and charged 150 lira, and told to go back in 2 days.... when he went back, the butcher...ooops I mean doctor syringed his ear and made it twice as bad. The whole bill was about 300 lira and we were told, no problem, your insurance will pay.

Never again would we go back there!!! I would always go to the pharmacy first.

the pharmacy is really good most of the employees in there are trained and will know exactly what you need
this year i was told by a few of my turkish friends that the main hospital for treating tourists is in marmaris as its a private one and is linked with most of the holiday companies
so my advice would be to go there or find out about it before using anywhere else if its necessary
but the chemist would be the best option i would say

Both times this year I had to visit the Pharmacist on the square, he's very good, charging 40 Lira each time.

He treated the infected area (bites) with iodine and needle to drain, Antibotic cream and tabs. Really recommend him

another good suggestion is if you can go to the chemist with a turkish person and get them to explain what you need and it should be cheaper than the tourists

Ive had no problems in the pharmacies with them understanding me,those I have been to have spoke good English.I had a chest infection and needed antibiotics,I suffer with COPD,they cost me 32 lira also required Prednol steroids they are so cheap 9lira.We were visiting Turunc last year and a friend of ours that was with us had been bitten by something a couple of days prior,the swelling had spread all along her arm,we passed a place on the main road that said Doctor,she popped in and he gave her an injection,cost £8,in and out in a couple of minutes !! and a couple of hours later her swelling had all gone.

My daughter needed treatment and went to the pharmacy.She is asthmatic and asked whether the recommended treatment contained aspirin as it's dangerous for asthmatics. She was told that it didn't contain any. When she checked herself it was on the list of ingredients. There was no confusion as to the word as it's the same word in English and Turkish.

Over the years we've also noticed that a lot of "extra" medicines seem to be given unnecessarily , don't know whether this is done purely for profit. Our Turkish friends seem to accept what the doctors and pharmacists say without question, even for things such as vitamin shots when they've had a bug. Luckily for my daughter she didn't buy the medicine at the pharmacy or she could have had a serious asthma attack and could have ended up in hospital or even worse.

So asthmatics be aware that you need to check the ingredients list.

years ago in the Aqua i asked the receptionist to see a dr as i felt fluey, she sent for an ambulance (a bit extreme i thought) and i ended up in Marmaris with "soreness of the throat and Body failure" after a jab up the backside i was fine the next day £50 for ambulance £50 for injection, 3 years ago i was ill and was sent to the little hospital near the market, he gave me a prescription for an infectin and one of my friends looked at it and and said it was just paracetemal.

we were only on holiday a day my freind had a cough but it got worse someone told us to go to the medical centre wh got their he said she had to go to hospital for xrays but first it cost her £380 just to see him got the hospital another £180 for xrays. she was in a week i brought water in as they were charging for that as well so expensive

true john but why so much just to see the doctor i can understand for xrays but that was a lot just to see him shes banned from turkey ha ha

seemingly there is a standard charge to go and see a doctor in turkey and then depending on what the problem is they charge extra accordingly
one of my turkish friends went to the doctor while i was there and she was telling me about it
