I must say that i am absolutely disgusted with the way i have been treated in turkey this year and will NOT be coming back next year, the hotel club diana is a disgrace and the exchsnge rate that i saw on icr was nothing like the rate that i got . The people are clearly of the opinion that as they have had a crap season they have a righg to treat people like complete crap . I nor any member of my family will return

Perhaps you could elaborate a little? I believe that hotel is in Marmaris, so I'm not familiar with it, but maybe you could tell us all why you didn't like it?
I don't think anyone on here is guilty of hype either - people are fairly honest and straightforward and will tell it as they find it, both good points and bad. It does seems a bit of a sweeping generalisation to write off an entire country on the basis of one bad experience though. Maybe it would help if we knew why you felt you were treated so badly - did you just stay in Marmaris itself, and are your comments based on Marmaris rather than Icmeler, for instance?
Also, the exchange rate quoted on the site here is the interbank rate, and the actual rate of exchange both here in the UK and in the resort is always lower than that. There are usually several threads telling you the exact rate of exchange people have been getting in the resort itself.

sorry but i have to add my opinion regarding my time in icmeler. i can honeslty say that i had the best time ever, the way me and my partner was treated while we stayed in icmeler was with total respect, nothing was a problem for any of the people in our apartments, and even the guys on the beach were lovley, we ate out everynight and not one of our meals or the service we received was bad, infact it was the total opposite.
However, this was while we were in Icmeler, we cannnot say the same about the day we spent in Marmaris, not once did any of the guys have a chat or pass the time of day with you, it just seemed to us that they were just after your money, and we didnt bother to go back.
Considering the 2 towns are close together we couldnt believe the difference in their attitudes towards us, the holiday makers.
We will def beback next year, same apartment as well , just a shame that it takes so long for it all to come round again xxxxxxxxxx

Well, if you stayed in Marmaris then that says it all, I have of course though met some very nice friendly people in Marmaris but I think there are more friendly people working in Icmeler as it is smaller and they have more time for us and visitors tend to return there year after year.
Some of the British people abroad at many of the resorts in many countries are brash, loud disgusting lager louts, does that mean the foreigners there should think we all are? Of course not- that would be unfair. There are good and bad everywhere.
Don't wipe out and dismiss what could be many wonderful future holidays just because of a few bad who are in the minority, just be more choosy next time, do a little investigating before you book and you will have fabulous holidays.
I would not contemplate a holiday in Marmaris, it has to be Icmeler.

Sorry for you Dazbo as it seems that the hotel your mother in law got free for you did not work out the way you wanted it.

As for don't believe the hype...........Click on your name and check your other posts and you it seems were the one really hyping the place.

Sorry you had a bad holiday. Because it was a freebie shouldn't make any difference, you should still do the research beforehand and if the comments are negative just book in alternative accommodation. The exchange rate is a subject that is frequently discussed on the forum so it's a shame that you hadn't read about it as its often explained that the rate given is slightly lower that on the icr home page. Also, it would have been lower again depending on where you changed your money, the supermarkets are always best.

It will be a shame if this puts you off Icmeler because there is so much information here which is not always available when you book a holiday somewhere else. Every year I take a new list with me of places that are recommended on this forum. I'm always amazed when someone tells me that they booked a holiday just because it looked nice in the brochure,as every place looks nice in the brochure!

It is really up to you to do the research to see whether your holiday suits you.

Lets elaborate, to start yes my holiday in marmaris was free accomodation, i came to icmeler on the first day to exchange money. The rate shown on icr forum is 2.36 lira per 1 gbp . The supermarket under icr offices told me that the rate in turkey at the moment is 2.20, after i showed him the web page he told me that it was RUBBISH
AND THAT HE WOULD DO ME A FAVOUR AND GIVE ME 2.26. my hotel in marmaris is very very basic and i acknowledge that as it was free i cant really conplain . However i have been to icmeler and the only word i can use to describe how we were treated by some traders is ABUSED . We are still here by the way . For another two weeks!!!!!

It is really up to you to do the research to see whether your holiday suits you.

In complete agreement, the Hotel Club Diana does not have good reviews and this should have set alarm bells ringing.

You have stated in previous posts that you have had a great time previously so don't let this one occassion put you off.


The exchange rate shown on the ICR page is the Interbank rate, you will never get that rate however at the supermarkets you should get the rate - 0.04 lira, Fridays closing rate was 2.28520 so you should get 2.23 - 2.24, DON'T USE THE EXCHANGE SHOPS. I actually think the feed to the ICR page has frozen as the interbank rate has not been 2.36 for a few weeks, also ICR are travel agents and not a money exchange beaureau.

All the above said, I hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday.

I have just returned from Icmeler. early hours of this morning. At the beginning of the holiday the exchange rate was 2.30, at the apartments and also the supermarket under ICR. The last few days the exchange rate went down slightly, I think to 2.26 at both places. I certainly wasn't ripped off, and the lovely man at the supermarket always gives me a free water and chewing gum.

I came back last week after spending 2 weeks in Icmeler and a week in Marmaris,I had a great time in both resorts,but I have to add that only in Icmeler was I charged for extra drinks on our bills or short changed !!,also the supermarket under ICR wasnt giving the best rate as in previous years !! we ended up changing money at the supermarket opp Selen Hotel on the road where the Travellers Rest restaurant was,he gave us more every time than the other,we werent over charged or short changed in Marmaris at all.

The rate on the home page has been frozen for a few weeks.

Whilst we were there in July the rate was slightly better in Arslan supermarket (opposite Loveboat and near Friends)than it was in Best supermarket or in the supermarket under the icr offices.We've always found that these three usually give the better rates for sterling.

We have just got back from icmeler and I cannot believe this post!!!! I will post my review when I have 5mins, but we had an amazing time as always, not only were our transfers excellent (ICR) but the whole resort I know people have their own opinions but I would just like to add that it was unfortunate that this person felt this way but as always we LOVED IT!!!!!!! what more can I say x

As many have said before, please don't let one bad experience put you off. My first visit to Turkey was to Marmaris to a vile hotel and I swore I'd never come back. That said, I did the research, came to Icmeler a couple of years later and thoroughly enjoyed it and have been there for the past four years, albeit in different hotels each time. And the hotel experience has varied widely - in fact in one of the less well thought of hotels I had a better time than the following year in a more "upmarket" one. Nothing is set in stone and you can have a bad experience anywhere but doing the research first is more likely to minimise the chance of that
