Kids stuff

My son and me are coming to Icmeler for the first time in September with my friend, his wife and kids. My mate has been several times before and needless to say has highly recommended it.

Im planning on doing some stuff with the kids (give my mate and his missus some time on their own) but im not really a beach/pool person. Obviously, the kids love the water and so they'll get plenty of time there as well, but I was wondering if there is any other specific places/activities for kids in the town itself.

Im not expecting funparks or anything (they would destroy the character of a place like Icmeler I would imagine)....but some of the best fun for kids can be found in the unlikeliest of places.

What about excursions, or nearby places (like marmaris) that are accesible by local transport?

Any ideas would be gratefully received.

p.s On a personal note, I like to find out about the locals and the history of the places I visit. It adds to the experience I think. My friend mentioned the old town. Also, the local mosque. Can anyone suggest any other places I should visit to get a feel for the town and its people?

Again, thanks.

Hiya

We have just returned on Friday from our first trip to Icmeler and these are a few things that we did.

Quad biking is great, you get to ride your own quad or two of you can share one.

Fishing is also fab, I caught my first ever fish of my life and it is so relaxing.

Taxi boat to Marmaris is every half an hour, great to pop over for a Mcdonalds (cant believe I admitted that!)

Lazy Boat Trips are great. The boat stops off at about 6 different places and you literally get off into the water if you wish to. Make sure you get a bed with some shade above you because believe you me the heat is unforgiving!

Hope these are of some use to you and above all enjoy your holiday although I am under no doubt that you will.

Wellcome to the site Caltonian.
When you go to Marmaris by either Dolmus or taxi boat, visit the old part with its castle and harbour.

Jeep safaris are a good day out and get you into the countryside, this is were you see the locals live.
A trip can be done to a village house, sometimes this is included in the jeep safari and is well worth a visit.

A boat trip is a must.

Up in the old village near the mosque and bakery you do feel as though you are in Turkey, but in the surrounding area of the village a lot of building of apartments and private villas has taken place over the last few years.
Best time to walk round here is early morning, when the farmyard animals are coming to life and the heat isnt to severe.
This is the time to take the camera and try and catch the piece and quiet on film.

Allison: Thanks for the info. The quad biking sounds like great fun :D Im sure the boys will be right up for that! I quite like the fishing as well, so ill need to look out for that too.

Gene: Some great suggestions, thanks. Especially the early morning walk. I think the Jeep Safari will be a must as well, as long as im not expected to drive :D (I can drive, but left hand drive vehicles are something different altogether :P )
