What's happening in Icmeler ?

Postby redrhino12 » 15 Sep 2010 18:32

What is happening to Icmeler?
Negative reports are all we seem to be reading nowadays,is our favourite place still their, or has it been taken over by undesirables.

Please give me something nice to read for a change.

This is how we used to write on the forum a few years back when life was sugar and spice and all things nice.
When romantics could stroll along the promenade late at night.
Bring back the good times.

It was the middle of August,
All the music had finished in the bars,
The walk home along the promenade should have taken but a a few minutes to get to our apartment.
The air was so warm and heavy with the smell of jasmine,
the sea glinting under the light of the moon and there was just the sound of the lapping of the waves as they gently carressed the sands.
A full moon and a starry sky, lights twinkling on the horizon as another cruise ship leaves Marmaris.

Two people walking together, no worries,a gaze and a smile

Just a faint hope that this memory could last forever.

Gene, the worst we had in three weeks was being ignored by our barmen and not able to get a sunbed. We will be back next year. We have some first time Icmeler friends there as we speak, it was their first ever time to Turkey too, guess what?? they can't wait to get back next year!!

So, in a nutshell it is still special to hundreds of us on here and has not and will not lose it's special charm.. AND you get to meet some of us :D :D

Hi Gene

I have been visiting Icmeler since 1999.

I went in May this year and will be back this weekend because I love it so much. Also I can walk about on my own and feel safe. Don't get much hassle either. I used to visit with my disabled partner, who has since died but the help we received with the wheelchair was marvellous. I never had to struggle with it (unlike this country) and we were always treated with respect, and I still am.

Hi Gene,
We have just come home after our 12th visit to Icmeler and we have never had any problems either like the previous lady. I also feel safe enough to walk around on my own. Icmeler is a lovely, lovely place and with the new mayor in place i think things are only going to get better.

Another little story from the past bringing back nice memories.

Music may go off at midnight in Icmeler, but music of a different kind starts, as soon as the sun begins to rise.

Up in the Old Village cockerels crow at the start of this new day,
Strutting around their harem of cackling hens,I suppose maybe disscusing with each other the routine of the coming day as their broods of chickens scratch away at the baked earth.

Sheep and goats call to each other, while the pidgeons sit on the rooftops of the small village houses cooing and canoodling to each other
and in the background is the constant rhythmic beat of the crickets.

A small brush fire is burning at one of the farms while this old lady clears the grass and small bushes off her land the smoke gently spiralling into the warm air stinging the nostrils as I walk past.

The early morning walk over I head back towards the town and as I get near to the centre I am brought back to reallity by the beating from one of the bars selling early morning breakfasts, the song,
Deeper in The Night

I keep giving myselfe reasons to stay in the Old Village
The tranquill atmosphere in the morning.
The Dark skies at night when the stars stand out like little jewels.

Why cant we live two lives.
Then again maybe I do.

I have tried to start a nice thread on Icmeler If you have a negative post please start your own thread or join one of the many others that knock Icmeler, this is so all us with rose coloured spectacles can just come and read nice things about our resort and not have our dreams tainted.

Hope no one is offended.

I went to bed early last night.
Unable to sleep my mind began to wander as I thought about my holidays in Icmeler.

In my mind I can walk down the side of the canal and over the bridges,
all the bridges are lit up with their twinkling lights, looking like something out of a fairytale.
The stall holders are busy selling their wares after frantic bargaining with eager tourists.
I can peer into the Venice, Majestic and Dreamboys people are having so much fun singing and dancing on the bars.

I stroll along the promenade, its so hot today maybe go for a swim later in the sea, but for the moment I think I will call into the Erdem and have an icecream and watch the people walk by.

I have had my shower, changed into my best bib and tucker and am now ready to hit the town.
Maybe dinner at the Loveboat and a dance at the Deniz Kapisi, maybe go and see the Stella Show at the Harmony.

or maybe z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z

The Turkish people on the whole are very respectful towards mature people wherever they are from. I have noticed that I am treated differently when I am with my Mum and Aunt there than if I am with my friend, no rude innuendo's etc.

No offence but tourists of quite mature ages will probaly not ever see this side of Icmeler. Maybe it is getting a bit worse but it has always been there, at least they deal with it better- there should be tougher penalties here like there are in Turkey so I do not think it will ever get as bad as it is here. To be honest how can we complain when here in Britain we are considered a soft touch regards to the law? Bet there is not the abuse and murders of children there as here in the UK but I wont go into all that.

People go on holiday all over the world for their well earned break in the sun.

They see nothing usually except what they want to see and all the bar owners are really nice and helpful.

Some of us are not just visitors and see exactly what goes on as in any other working resort in the world.

I have just returned from a fantastic 2 weeks in Icmeler and never experienced anything untoward.

The only bad time I had was the day I was returning home knowing that my 2 weeks in heaven was finally over!!!
