Where is the best place to start the climb to the flag and when is the best time to do this. Been to Icmeler 4 times and still havent done it so am really keen to do it next year, Carol

I would like to know this information too please. Coming out next week and hubby and I would like to walk up to the flag. Also whats the path like up to the top? whats the best clothes and footwear to wear? Looking forward to the challenge, as last year we came in August and decided it was too hot to do it then.

hi best time to do the flag, take a case of EFES with you in the day light,start at the top ,work your way down to wards it,and with a bit luck ,you,ll either stumble or fall on it . We set off from Tommys Bar up in the village.
Their is no path just thorns and thistles so my advice would be strong trainers long trousers or joggers,take plenty of water and set off at about 10am.
A gang of about 9 of us did the walk in June,we all took different routes,Travelingscot(think thats his name but he knows who he is) did the best way.
But we all arrived ok within the hour,the walk back is not to bad and a lot easier to the way our group went up.
You can off course use the descent route as the way to get to the top but the you would be called a wuss by all us experienced climbers.
The North face of the Eiger was nothing compared to "The Walk To The Flag"

We actually did this in August. Me my 12 year old daughter father in law and a great friend I met over there Neil. I can't say the best place to start as we obviously started at the wrong place as we actually went past the flag
We were heading towards the flag then the next thing the bloody thing was behind us.

It was a great time though, I really enjoyed it, and was very proud of my daughter as it was very rocky where was climbed, and a bit hair raising to be honest...but we obviously took the wrong route. We did it about 8 in the morning, it was extremely hot in August, it was 40 at 9 in the morning. Don't wear open toed shoes and try and wear quarter lengths, I wore shorts and scratched my legs quite a bit on the rough bushes.

By the way the views up there are spectacular. I will be doing it again next year, I think I'll stick a sat nav in me pocket this time though.

Not really sure which is the correct route but when myself and daughter set off from Tommy's we went in a beeline towards the cemetary and climbed straight up from there. There was a lot of scrambling around and it was quite heavy going through some of the shrubs. We were both wearing walking boots for which we were most grateful, and long trousers. We are planning to repeat the trip, I think on 5th October and probably again the following week when our kids will be joing us in icmeler. We have already decided to add long sleeves and possibly some gloves to save our hands. The general tips I would say are to start off earlier rather than later, we went around 10.00 a.m., take plenty of water and make sure you are wearing sturdy footwear. Finally, don't forget your camera. The view is amazing. Enjoy!

If you want friends to watch your ascent the best place to do this is from tommys bar. cross the bridge straight in front of tommys and veer to the right on the road after about 500yards there is a turning off the road on the left walk back down it until you come to a fence with a wall running to the right through the trees follow the wall and then head straight up the cleft in the hill till your nearly at the top then veer right and zig zag up to the summit
and you will always be in view from tommys once you clear the trees

We did the walk to the flag this year, started off at 6:30am. We took a bottle of frozen water each with us which we bought from our local shop. Its a bit of a rough climb so you do need trainers. The view from the top is amazing though. My partner was going to film us all on the way down but it was still too rough a journey to attempt it, he said next time he will have to strap the video camera to his head lol. We started off at the cemetary,the fist bit is steep but is a road,when you almost get to the gates just to your left you will see an arrow that someone has left made out of tree branches, it is laid on the floor. Follow this arrow and the trampled path to the top. Good luck, and will be looking foreward to seeing the pics you take when you do get to the top
