Authentic Turkish Food

Postby carol0912 » 15 Sep 2010 16:51

Can anyone tell me any restaurants where we can get Turkish food. We would like a break from the steaks, chicken dishes etc. Any info greatly appreciated

Please please please be wary of the Lal, I was sooo disappointed with this place, worst meal of the holiday which was really surprising with all the recommendations on here

I would have no hesitation in recommending the Lal - had the best meals we've ever had in Icmeler there and can't wait to go back in October. Think I've only read the one disappointing review about the place - which I wasn't surprised about - so that must mean something.

I would second this, very disappointing meal. It doesn't mater what you call them on the menu they are still chips. I have the photos to prove it.

The restaurant it's self is very nice and the live Turkish singer is very good, just the food was very poor.

We were also disappointed. We were really looking forward to going to this restaurant. There were four of us, each ordering different things on the menu. Not one of us enjoyed our meal. My meal had so much yoghurt in it that it was cold and might as well have been a bowl of yoghurt.I know you can always send it back but that would mean that I would be eating mine when everyone else had finished.

I will still try there again next year. I liked the atmosphere in the restaurant and enjoyed the musicians playing their guitars. This was their first year so perhaps by next year their meals they will be better.

Selam gets my vote. It's owned by a lovely coupleTurget and Sibel and is down the road with the Red Lion on the corner (opposite Tansas). One evening we asked for a particular brand of wine which they didn't have and Turget went out to get it for us...now that's what I call service! The food is lovely but you may have a little wait because every meal is freshly prepared from scratch Try the Testi Kebab which is cooked in front of you in a clay pot on the fire...it's delicious! and if you're lucky enough you may be offered a glass of his homemade cherry brandy.
Have a great time, you will love Icmeler!

We were going to try the Selam in June after reading many good reports about it, but every time we passed it was empty, and when we stopped and read the menu and decided to give it a go, the one person who seemed to be working just ignored us and turned their back on us, so it wasn't exactly inviting...

The Kerem is more expensive than many places, yes, but any time we've been in, the food has been gorgeous, and the cheesecake in particular was to die for - the best I've ever tasted anywhere. The owner and her family were lovely people too.
