Icmeler Online Holiday Forum & Reviews - Turkey

Hi I am visting Icmeler for the first time from Sunday 12th September for two weeks but unfortunately the friend that I was going with has cancelled and no other friends are available to come instead.

I am not worried about the days as am happy to lie in the sun with my book/i-pod but am not looking forward to the evenings. Talking to yourself in restaurants while they are cooking your dinner is not a good look! Nor do I want to be worried about overattentive waiters as a lone female.

Can anyone recommend places where I will be comfortable? Is anyone in resort during that time that wouldn't mind adopting me for one evening (trying not to make that sound like on-line dating )?

I am planning on going on some day trips with lunch and will then just have something in my apartment in the evening but any suggestions welcome.

I have been with friends several times but went by myself in August - and it was fine! Prince (on the way to the beach, near the fountains) would be a good place to go. They welcome people sitting at the bar which felt better to me than sitting at a table by myself and you won't get any hassle.

dont think you will get any hassle in the wayside or the love boat restaurant......

i have been a few times now on my own im just back from icmeler last night
i stayed for 13 weeks on my own
my boyfriend works in the loveboat so if you go there then the boys might be cheeky to you by talking but they wont hassle
you wont get hassle in wayside either or chef

hi blackpoolgirl the ro bradshaw1 is spot on,jimmy at the okimo bar is perfect ,good food also,tell him i said that he must look after you ,he is a top man and his wife. don,t be to worried about walking about on your own,my wife says icmeler is the only place she will wwalk about on her own[while i sit in jimmys].thats why we,ve been to icmeler 20 odd times [luv it] he speaks good english ,a navy captain and great to talk to .give him my regards i am going 1st oct. go and see rose in the lighthouse rest/bar and ask for joan and john shield they staying there,joan and john will talk to you,they go on 24thsept. they are friends of ours ,age gap unknown? but some body to talk to. enjoy bill atkinson

No Name Bar is a good place to go.I know one of the owners Becks who's girlfriend is out there for the season,So will be there every night.The boys who work there will look after you also:Ahmet,Ali G,Harun and Ahmet to name but a few.

Hi Blackpoolgirl best place for you to chill out and watch the world go buy has got to be Ida cafe opposite banks and next to bonjour.you will get no hassle from them Funda is manager and she will look after you. We fly out on 17/9/10 for a week and often spend plenty of time in there people watching .my wife has a degree in people watching if your around pop in and have a drink you won't miss us there's me and missus and son who's called Will (5yrs old) and he will be flying about on his scooter!!

If I were to have to "go it alone" Icmeler is definately one of the places I would definately do it. I would feel safe and confident enough. I sometimes did the same as somebody else has mentioned, if the children got tired I would quite happily walk back to the apartment on my own with them if my husband fancied staying for another drink or finishing off what he was already drinking (even though i suspect he ordered another when I had gone ). We stayed at Captain Silver Apartments which were up a side street and quite dark but I was never once worried or scared I feel so safe when we are there, definately would not consider doing that at home, I even drive up the road into town to pick my daughter up from the bus when it is dark You will be well looked after so enjoy yourself

Hi Blackpoolgirl - just to confirm what a few others have already said. Icmeler is a very safe place to be in the evening - this will be the third year I'm going alone and although I've friends I meet with for an occasional evening or boat trip that wasn't the case the first time and I got on fine on my own. Walked back to the hotel in a very dark street after midnight several times and didn't once feel unsafe. I went to the Harmony alone that first trip and the minute I walked in the door the waiter realised I was on my own and suggested that I could sit at the bar without anyone bothering me (he was right) and he even pointed out another woman on her own in case I wanted to have someone to chat with.

Last year I went B & B and had dinner at the Mandalin most nights (on the main drag going from the roundabout to the beach - just before the new fountain I think?) and the waiters were friendly but did not pester me (and this was late in the season when they would have had time to pester me if they wanted to try LOL)

I'm not travelling at the same time as you, but I'm sure you'll meet up with people and make friends - Icmeler is a very relaxed and friendly place - I met Starchild and her other half three years ago on a boat trip and we're still in contact!

Don't worry, you will be fine. I have been on my own to Icmeler on many occasions and have dined at many places with no hassle, too many to mention. Also as many have said I feel quite safe walking around, even on the quiet streets in the old village late at night which I cannot say of here in England. In fact I found I got more hassle in the restaurants when I was with my friend than when I was alone, I think they seem to respect the fact that you are alone and behave with the utmost respect.

Can I recommend Cupids? It's right next door to L'etoile Hotel, opposite Prince Bar near the fountains in the Square. Although I wasn't 'holidaying' alone I went in there a couple of times on my own for a coffee (my friend went back to our Apartment for a siesta) and I can honestly say that I felt 100% comfortable to go in there on my own hence I went in there a couple of times. I'm will NEVER EVER go in a place on my own through fear of looking like I was on the 'look-out' or something (!) but I never felt like that in there - it really does have a lovely atmosphere & it's handy for a lovely coffee when coming back from the beach!

hi i go to icmeler twice a year on my own i have never looked back after the first time i meet some gret people and i really do have a great holiday im goin in 2 weeks time staying at melita aparts ihave felt safe every time i have went and had no hassle wen i walked around or went shopping

I'd have no hesistations in going to Icmeler alone, have been a couple of times with just me and the kids and they often fired off doing their own thing. I didn't experience any hassle nor was I made to feel uncomfortable.

I think too that by going on your own, you can be totally selfish and indulge in going when and where you want to haha

Dani1 - am thinking of booking the Melita for next year so when you get back can you please post saying what the pool area's like - does it get busy, sun all day or shade towards the afternoon - thanks

Thank you to everyone who took the time to reply. I am now back and can only agree with all the people who said that Icmeler is a safe place to be alone.
I only had one negative experience in a restaurant and that was a feeling that they were rushing me as they could get twice a much for the table if two people were sat there. It was a busy night and the food was good so I gave them the benefit do the doubt and went back in my second week and they were better but not as friendly as other places.
Special mentions to the staff at PIer 15 where I had my lunch on the days I was on the beach and those at the Blue Star Apartments where I was staying.

hi i am a preston girl so not too far away. i went on my own 3 years ago after splitting with my husband shortly before we were due to go (back together now) and it was fine. i stayed at the diva as some friends of ours work there and everything was great. If you like people watching and a quiet drink the diva is the place , although it was busy when i was there a couple of weeks ago everyone who goes in is very friendly and they get a quite a few lone travellers staying/drinking there. nassu (eddie) is a realy friendly helpful guy and his partner in crime gulay (pronounced July)is a lovely girl who will do all she can to make you feel welcome.
Across the road at sevgi bar arif (the owner) and the boys who work there will also look after you,they to have seats at the bar so you can blend in. Arif is a lovely guy and i even leave a suitcase full of gear at his to pick up when i return next time (saves on baggage allowance)
you will have a great time, icemeler is a friendly, safe place whether you are on your own or with someone and i would bet you make many friends turkish and british who you will stay in touch with for many years to come.
If you go to any of the bars mentioned say hi to Naz (Eddie),Gulay and Arif from Pete and Debbie
