Icmeler was...................... ok

Postby ale233 » 03 Sep 2010 21:13

Just returned from 2 weeks in Icmeler and have had a really nice time but found that most of the restaurants offer the same menus, same deals and the shops sell the same tat. It is no worse than European holiday resorts but think I had built up Icmeler in my mind after being on this site a lot and reading all the fab reviews. The apartments we stayed at (Bahar) were good and nice and clean but we just found Icmeler to be a little too commercialised and spoilt by the neon signs and hassle from people trying to get you into restaurants and bars. We would love to go back to Turkey again but think that we might try a different resort. Sorry if I have upset some Icmeler lovers but just wanted to add a little review!

If you don't want anything like that then you need to pick a place where Turks stay, like Datca

Any popular resort is going to be commercialised, that's what popularity does. It's the people that make it for me in Icmeler, you can't compare them with the likes of the Spanish in a million years. As for the food in the restraunts, aint it the same anywhere you go abroad, there's only so much food you can supply. We ate in 13 different restraunts when we were there and ate 12 different meals. It is a pity that it didn't live up to your expectations though.

I was simply posting my own review of Icmeler and have been to many holiday resorts that offer a VARIETY of restaurants and menus. Icmeler was fine but I wanted other new comers to the forum to read our review of the area.

Can you elaborate on your review ? Tell us where you normally go and what the differences where you found ? I like to see Icmeler through the members eyes , and see what they see, as we are all unique :D

Ale your post was good, each to their own and if you wanted a more "Turkish" resort I mentioned Datca because it is one of the closest to the area but there are lots more

Hi, Ive just been looking at Datca on the internet and it looks lovely. We have been to Portugal a couple of times, staying in Cascais and in Quarteira; we have also been to Majorca - Puerto Pollensa and Porto Cristo; Nerja a few times and Thailand twice. We found the people in Icmeler very friendly and the whole place had a nice atmosphere, it was just different to how I thought it would be. We had a really lovely holiday though and the children enjoyed it. We took a water Taxi to Turunc and liked it there.
I also found this forum to be really useful for Restaurant recommendations and printed out several posts to help in choosing where to eat. We had really nice meals at Lal and Wayside and fab breakfast at De ja vu.
Thanks for the replies.

Datca is lovely, I take a drive over there every year, very Turkish and not touristy at all, Akyaka is another small and quaint un touisty place as well. There are lots of other Turkish smaller places, if you check out the HolidayTruths website, the members will give you lots of helpfull information as well :D

I was working in Oban last week and found as ale 233 wrote [quoteJust returned from 2 weeks in Icmeler and have had a really nice time but found that most of the restaurants offer the same menus, same deals and the shops sell the same tat][/quote]

I'm in Icmeler next week and I can assure you that it is not the Oban of the east.

I just wanted to say that it was the people in Icmeler that made our holiday.

The location is gorgeous but the people are so warm and friendly, they really made our holiday and I can't wait to go back next month :)
