Booking error!

Postby davoal2 » 24 Aug 2010 20:31

Hi i booked my flight independently last month to fly out to dalaman for october,The problem being when i entered the names of persons flying i put my partner name down as Dave instead of David which is on his passport. I am not sure if this will pass through check-in or passport control.I did email the flight broker and they seem to think that it will have to match the name on the passport ie (David),To change this they want £50  Has anybody else shortened there name,if so was there any problems... Many thanks

I'm not sure but I think you have to have the same name on the ticket as the passport but i may be wrong cos when I have just looked at my tickets it just has the initial not the full name :?

I would if I were you get in touch with the actual flight company if possible and not the broker. They may do it cheaper or even free of charge. I rather do think it is important that the passport name matches the ticket, if the airport in the UK accept him as we are used to names being shortened but it may be a problem checking in at Turkey when you come home. I myself wouldn't risk it. There was a slight error on my friends ticket to return home and when she got to the front of the queue at Dalaman they wouldn't let her check in, she was frantic as when she went to the Help desk they did not speak English, luckily a very kind Turkish man explained and they summoned the holiday rep who was at the airport and she sorted it but she was on a package and if the rep had not been at the airport she would have had a real problem.

Many thanks for the above replys,Maybe a lesson learnt in future,I did check out the flight operator and they want £100 to ammend the name,So i suppose £50 from the broker is the better choice,It just seems expensive to change my partners name from Dave to David,As i said a lesson learnt....Many thanks to skilly too

Always use initials then you wont get it wrong

Also if the flight was booked through us, we do not charge admin fees to alter stuff like that

I agree, I always only use my first name initial when booking flights.

Oh dear, it annoys me when brokers, flight companies etc charge the earth to do a simple name change or correction, if they are the ones who cock it up and we have to contact them to correct it they don't give us money, it's us, the customer who has to probably spend a fortune on the phone before we actually get through to speak to someone. :x

At least you will never ever make that mistake ever again. Have a fabulous worry free holiday and unless you havn't done already DON'T tell the partner, every disagreement you have and everytime he is grumpy he will never let you forget! :D :D :D

Sorry, no offence meant, you are the good guys, I should have added the word SOME, I realize you are not one of the companies to exploit the customers and take advantage of the situation as very many do.

I have emailed our travel company to ask about just having initials on our tickets and they said not to worry as they only put initials on e tickets.
