Hi robinbhogal,
We thought exactly the same after being in
Icmeler in June 2009 so in September we tried Olu Deniz.
When we arrived we sat in the Buzz Bar drinking a beer watching the paragliders descend and land on the promenade and we thought 'Wow! This is fantastic'. However after a few days we decided that it wasn't a patch on Icmeler.
The beach looked lovely - soft golden sand - but as you approached the sea it turned to small pebbles then larger pebbles then boulders the size of grapefruits. There is quite a steep entry to the sea. The sea is very rough so In order to get in and out you must wear shoes so that you can get some purchase on the pebbles. The sunbeds (which had seen better days) were 6 tl for each bed and a further 6 tl for an umbrella. These charges also applied in the Blue Lagoon (and you had to pay to get in).
The food wasn't a patch on Icmeler. In fact we had the worst meal we have ever been served in Turkey. However, there were lovely restaurants in Fethyie on the harbour and around the fish market (buy your own fish and they cook it for you and serve it with bread and salad for 5 tl). Fethyie is a working town so you can't really stay there.
Prices were much higher than in Icmeler as were the number of mozzies.
On the plus side the
transfer is short.
Needless to say it's Icmeler for us June and September this year.
