Please make this one of the first things you do when getting to your apartment or Hotel.
I have just read where someone has just lost their holiday money that was being kept in their room instead of useing the Safe Deposit Box that all hotels and apartments provide for a small charge.
Its the only way to keep safe your tickets, passport and money.

Peace of Mind.

Maybe I am being neurotic but i dont think so as I have in the past in many different places abroad including Turkey heard of people paying and using the safety deposit box only to have the money etc stolen from it. I do not think it is a good idea when the safety deposit boxes are at reception along with the keys hung up as many a time I have got back at the early hours and just occasionally although someone is always doing the night shift they are not there (we all have calls of nature) or they have nodded off. I really do not trust the location of some of these safety deposit boxes and none of the hotels will guarantee the safety of these.
Also I have stayed in many different hotels and apartments and have never ever had money that I have had lying around, mobile phone, jewellery, ipod etc taken by any of the cleaning staff. I have found them all 100% honest. My Mum dropped money under the bed and the cleaner had put it all on the bedside cabinet and there was actually much more than my Mum thought she had dropped, I would trust the cleaners in Icmeler without doubt.

Something else to bear in mind though, Chocoholic, is that if anything did happen - money or valuables going missing, for example - and you didn't have them in a safety deposit box, your insurance company might not pay out. You'd have to check your individual policy, as the terms can vary, but some companies won't cover you unless you have taken certain precautions, such as using the boxes.

I feel totally the same way though I still use the boxes at our hotel despite the second key ons the box being clearly on show at the usually un manned reception, I gets its a little peace of mind knowing that any thief would have extra mither locating my hiden key then goin to the reception for the second key and to be fair the place we are going to this Friday is a small family run hotel and fully trust worthy.... but as they say....never say never and always be careful

Totally agree with the majority, it is preferable if the boxes are in your room. However if you need to make any sort of claim, you are expected to have taken some sort of precautions.

Also make sure your travellers cheques and paperwork are kept separate in case of loss etc.

We arrive late evening on 6th Sept and my stuff will be in a safe before I go to bed
