I need to call home when I am away and have to call an orange mobile number
What is the cheapest way to do this?
I have skype on my 3 mobile and understand I can buy credit to call a uk mobile number? Has anyone done this , does it work?
Is it better just to buy a phone card and use the local phone box?
The mobile I need to contact is an orange mobile.

I'd buy a phone card and just use one of the local boxes, to be honest. The cards last for ages - we bought one for 5TL and hardly used any of the credit on it in the phone calls we made.

can't help with the skype question, but the cheapest way to call home - either to a landline or a mobile - is using a phone card. i've used my mobile before and the call charges have been horrendous! the phone cards are cheap and you last for a decent time.
hopefully someone else will know about the skype and if that will be a cheaper option for you

My hubby took his mobile with us last year and when we got back we found out he'd been charged over £20 for 2 x 5minute phone calls!! We bought a 10TL phonecard and it lasted us the whole 2 weeks we were away, calling both our parents twice.

f you can talk skype to skype you could get away with going to an internet cafe and paying a few lira for half an hour/an hour. Other than that, definately a phonecard if you're going to be phoning often or for a considerable amount of time.

Hi,
I used phone cards to phone home landlines,I bought one last year
and still had credit on it to use this year. I found the cheapest time
to phone was after 8pm turkey time. Hope this helps.

Phone card "cheap as chips" from the supermarket.

The ones in the supermarkets are great and cheap. We bought one off the rep on the
transfer last time we went, what a pain in the rear that was. It had a scratch part where you revealed a number. The number was bigger than the bloody world debt, ended up binning it and going to supermarket.

Hi i took my laptop this year and i made several calls back to the uk on a daily basis using skype,i only put £5 credit on and i only used £3 for the whole 2 weeks there. We had a wifi connection at the apartments and a few bars we used to visit so never a problem,The calling rate was something like 2p min. It for me was certainly the cheapest method for me calling the uk.
