duty free cigs at gatwick?

Postby mayfair612 » 27 Jul 2010 08:01

as turkey is not in europe does that mean i can buy cigarettes at gatwick before my flight to turkey. up to this year i was under impression that turkey was counted in europe even though they did not use euros and every year took 3000 cigarettes from turkey home, had no idea all i was allowed was 200

3000??  turkey is not in the EU, hence the restriction on duty free cigarettes. you are indeed allowed to buy cigarettes in the UK. returning to the UK, your allowance is only 200. lucky you for never being caught!

oh my god, i was lucky! that will teach me for listening to my ex husband! he constantly said i was wrong about the rules. what he said was even if he did have too many by opening each pack and removing 2 it could be proved they were for his own purposes and not to sell. thankfully wont have to listen to any of that any more. thanks for cofirming what i thought

You were lucky but of course if you thought it was allowed you would have sailed through "nothing to declare" with a very innocent look on your face, if you did it now you would probably look soooo guilty lol!
