Car Hire and sightseeing in Icemeler

Postby MikeB » 25 Jul 2010 06:59

Hi,

We'll be flying out on 2nd August for our first Icmeler holiday (woooo!) and just stumbled upon the forum so there may be a few questions over the next few days ;)

We picked icmeler mainly because recommendations from friends indicated that it would be a nice place to just chill out and have a lazy holiday.

We've tended to hire a car for our hols for the last 10 years or so, but this year I haven't got round to it. In other places, we've used the car for sightseeing trips (say for less than a 50 mile radius) and days at quieter beaches that are more than a walk away so I'm starting to wonder whether i should reconsider and hire something anyway.

1/ If we were to hire, would people advise booking from home or waiting until in the resort?
2/ Are there any beaches or sights that more than a walk away that would make hiring worthwhile?

TIA,
Mike

i would recomend not to hire a car as the last time i did resulted in two seperate fines from the police. first one they said was for speeding ! what a nonsense ! the layby they had set up there so called speed trap was full of tourists,, shelling over money,,, as you can imagine most were very unhappy, there locals drive like madmen and there was not one of them getting fined ! most of the tourists were like myself just cruising along taking in the lovely countryside, certainly NOT speeding, the second fine well yes no argument there NO seatbelt,, and yes another £30 fine,, so by now im £60 down and hav,nt even driven halfway to bodrum,,, it realy spoiled my day. you will see many of theese layby,s on your way to icmeler full of tourists jumping up and down handing over money. so my advice is take a taxi boat it,s far more relaxing and cheaper, and theres little chance of being fined for so called speeding. have a nice holiday.

My advice is go an hire a car and see what you are missing just staying in the resort.

Here is a link for you to get the car ordered before you leave

http://www.icmeleronline.com/icmeler_rent_a_car.php

I have been driving around Turkey for a few years now and only once have I been caught by a speed trap and it was 2 weeks ago rushing to Dalaman airport to pick up my son who was on the phone every 2 minutes to tell me that he was walking along the road out of the airport.

I know that there are speed traps everywhere but if you are going over 50 in a 50 km zone then you will be done.

I was doing 64 overtaking a wagon but my own fault.

Take the Datca road out of the back of the resort and you will be amazed at the sights and sounds that you will see as you gently drive along the roads towards different uncrowded beaches, then come back to Icmeler all chilled out and have a nice evening meal and a few drinks
