FIRST TIME VISITOR,ADVICE NEEDED

Hello all,just a few questions for the regular visitors to Icmeler after finding this board.
My wife and I will be travelling to Icmeler on 31/7/10 for 2 wks staying at the hotel PRIVATE.
Any info on general prices of meals,beer and trips would be greatly appreciated as this will be our first time to turkey after holidaying for the last few years to Bulgaria and Croatia.
Also if there is anything else we should know before our trip i would be gratefull of your help (e.g exchanging money,do's +don'ts,tipping,haggling or anything else)

hi general prices are as follows
set menu meals range from 15.00 lira for full any chicken,pasta or pizza with coffe and liquor (£8.00 app)
or 24.00 lira for any steak meals these are starter,meze,main meal and desert and or usually coffe
prices for beer are from 2.50 lira(£1.15 pint) to 5.00 lira same product just shop around
good meals can be had at florida restaraunt at the end of canal or masala opposite we found a brilliant small family run restaraunt called unicorn next to main square excellent service
trip prices vary you must shop around and haggle your head off to get good deals
we just came back 20/07/10 exchange rate was 2.32lira at the supermarket below icr offices

Welcome to the forum majestic do really good value chinese set meals and have entertainment on from about 10, you'll find lots of reataurants that do the set meals gormeik mentioned and usually about the same price..... a few restaurants that are on our list every year are the lighthouse (opposite the icr office) florida, sabri's bar for BBQ night, majestic and the chef, these all do lovely meals.... Last year we changed all our money at the supermarket under the icr office as it was the best rate we could find! just be warned as this is your first trip to icmeler.... you will fall in love with the place and want to go back at every chance you get!!

Hi, we also arrive on 31/ 7, this will be our second visit to Icmeler and will tell you now it wont be our last lol. It is a great holiday place to go. Re money, dont change it until you get there as rates much better there. Dont forget the £10 note per person entry fee at the passport control. As for where to eat, the wonderful people on this forum have reviews of the restaurants and there is also a thread listing all peoples top 3 places to eat. Make a list I have
The Turkish people are extremely friendly and helpful so dont be afraid to ask for help or advice. best thing to do would be to browse this forum, there are loads of helpful tips. have a great time as i am sure you will.

When you come out of the Private Hotel turn right walk about 50 yards up to the corner.Turn right again cross the road, about a further 50 yards brings you to another corner where you will find Kurt Jewellery Shop.
Turn left and go up to the round ,about 70 yards, crossing the road will bring you to a Supermarket and the Tandoori Sizzler.
Go down the road that runs along the side of the Tandoori Sizzler and before reaching the Scotia Bar the entrance to the ICR Office is up the stairs by the side of the building.

Hi, well you'll certainly find coming to Icmeler a more friendly reception than if you've been to Bulgaria before! A lot safer too, and not as many scams.

Oh, and you might find it a bit hotter than your previous destinations - if I remember rightly, there's nearly always a sea breeze in Croatia, don't be surprised to find the sun beating down here, just do the usual sensible stuff though and no worries

you will have a fantastic time and im sure it wont be your last! we have stayed at the private hotel many times, basic but clean and pool area is lovely with a nice pool bar for you to enjoy an efes or 2!! a very good friend of mine ( goes by the name of bobby)runs the receptiom area and will be more than willing to help you with any query and speaks excellent english.as you come out of the main entrance of the private hotel you will find the jasmin bar right opposite i can highly recommend there full english breakfast. we are coming back on the 13th aug to get married in icmelerand also staying at the private. enjoy your hols.

1st timer to turkey myself on 26th august, do you mean to take sterling and change it there or take your cards and get lira at the atm?
