THOMSON NOT ATOL PROTECTED

Postby geordiedave1964 » 17 Jul 2010 16:29

We have ended up booking directly with thomson as goldtrail went bust and after we booked in the t and c it is not atol protected. if the worst happens to thonsoms are we covered in anyway as i paid by credit card? how would we get back and i thought thomsons would be atol protected.....

here is the pasted part

ATOL Protection
Not all flights offered and sold by us will be protected by the ATOL scheme. If you are buying a flight from Thomson Airways operated by Thomson Airways your flight will not be ATOL Protected. If you are buying a flight from TUI UK Limited operated by a third party Carrier your flight will be ATOL protected.
When you buy an ATOL protected flight from TUI UK Limited and operated by a third party Carrier you will receive a confirmation invoice from us (or via our authorised agent through which you booked) confirming your arrangements and your protection under TUI's Air Travel Organiser’s Licence number 2524 (in the case of "TUI"). In the unlikely event of our insolvency, the CAA will ensure that you are not stranded abroad and will arrange to refund any money you have paid to us for an advance booking. For further information visit the ATOL website at www.atol.org.uk.

yeah thats my problem i booked accom and flight with on the b*ach who used goldtra*l who went bust i needed a flight so i booked with thomsons only to find out my accom is protected but my flight is now re-booked through thomsons and is not covered as its a seperate booking. if it was a package it would have been ok now im worried something may happen to thomsons as i would have to find my own way back

just have to keep my fingers crossed thomson are ok probs worriying over nowt as it shouldnt happen to me twice on the same holiday and i thing a lot of people book flights everyday with no probs at least i paid with credit cad so i would get some help with the credit card company thanks everyone anyway

I think it is something to do with booking flights directly with the airline rather than via a tour operator, it is really complicated though and I wouldnt have thought of it either.

I know no one thought XL would go, but me and hubby were saying today if Thomsons or Thomas Cook airlines or the tour op side goes then surely the whole British travel industry would be in a mess. As theryre both owned by huge companies.

Well I'd have thought it unlikely either of "those" two companies would go bust - they are the two biggest hol companies in the UK.
You do have to wonder though - that ashcloud fiasco earlier this year, and people cutting back on spending (though after the great "staycation" year which 2009 was supposed to be - and the UK had a washout summer, thus letting people know exactly what a holiday in the UK can really mean - they might not cut back on abroad a second year - who knows) - well maybe the airline part could have issues, no idea.

Then again - anyone remember a company called Intersun? They were one of the big three of the UK holiday market, had their own airline etc. It was chaos in the holiday company when that happened.

Really though, wouldn't worry. Being logical, the weather for the immediate future is crud, people coming up to the school hols are going to try booking to get away. The companies aren't going to go under this summer.

Not bothered now i have found a website that everyone should look at if you book a flight which is not atol protected then for £5.00 a person you get your flight covered in case of administration or insolvency its called

booked my flight only for sept with M****ch,which it says all flights paid are ATOL protected, the worry is the operator is another companty name A**O and the invoice when i printed it off has C**MOS,it makes you wonder if any part of the 3 names you are dealing with could go under and you are involved.

The Imeler part is booked with ICR which i have more faith in than the flight operators

ITV have just run a feature that seems to imply that there could be more to come, soon all trust and faith in booking and paying for your holiday will go out the window and something will have to be re-invented to rebuild the industry, just my opinion!!

Hi Geordie Dave, are you flying from Newcastle on the sat afternoon 31st? That is the flight we are on, so it better not go bust  We have booked ours as a package off Thomson tho so we should be ok. I will be in my wheelchair so say hi if you see me with my hubby daughter and son, I hope after all your hassle you have a great holiday. My sis was travelling to bodrum on 13/8 with Goldtrail, she has had to borrow to get alternate flights, they leave from manchester now instead of newcastle. Its so sad.
