Cutting it fine?

Postby adewolves » 12 Jul 2010 12:00

I've really struggled this year financially, I'm just hoping 100 quid a day will get us through this year, any thoughts? Me the missus and 2 girls aged 13 and 14. We went 2 years ago and to be honest I drank none stop 8) but not planning on drinking much during the day this time as it caught up with me last time. We don't do trips, we eat out each night. Do you think we'll get by?

Hi adewolves,I think you will be able to manage a decent holiday on the budget you are setting just remember to take it easy during the first half of the holiday. Find out what the price of things are and leave any trips until the second part, remember big bottles of soft drinks are a lot cheaper than glass fulls in bars and restaurants.

You will manage.

Buy bread and fillings to make sandwiches for lunch.
Buy Efes and pop at Tansas and go into the apartment during the day when you want a drink.
Have the odd meal at Harry Rams or Nefes, meal for 4 with a round of drinks will be about £25.

Last year we spend £123 a day for two adults and two teenagers but I could have got it down a lot less as we didn't hold back, one thing I have learnt is I was vastly overtipping compared to most so that will reduce this year, no more tips for when I just stop for a quick drink.

Just makesure you budget daily and don't go into the next days budget, I wouldn't be surprised that after 3 or 4 days you will have enough to have a splash out.

Nefis Pide is such good value for money - Eat in or Take Away. You get loads as well so if you only eat half of it you can take the rest away to snack on. It is defo more expensive this year but yopu shopuld get by if you follow all the great advice available on here. Happy Hols Mate!!!

Adewolves, i know the feeling, i must have been psychic last year and booked AI, was a few hundred quid more than the basic self catering we usually do. And i am so glad as I've hardly been able to save up for spends this year so will go out every other day or something. I worked out most of our money went on food and drinks and hubby doesnt drink and if I have 3 a night thats a lot.

We only had about £800 for 3 of us last year and buying every other meal for the eldest, as she was working even though only 17 so couldnt afford to keep her in booze etc.

My tips agree with the others about making butties, eating in room.
. Go to public part of beach free beds etc and your not tied into buying inflated drinks prices, or just smuggle your drinks in a cool bag.
. Take a travel kettle, own teabags and coffee. a brew in a restaurant can be around 3 lira and not always that nice.
. Eat at the takeways, bargain, at the most the year before 6 of us had kebab and chips and a can of pop / bottle of water for 60 lira. Last year didnt seem much dearer, we are at the one on the block before wonder boys.
. If you want to do a trip barter with them and price match.
. Smuggle can of pop in a bag if going to a restaurant, order one fizzy drink then top it up, making sure its the same colour
. Bring a couple of loo rolls from home, if room in suitcase- still dont get the 1 loo roll only in self catering, never had that in other countries.

Enjoy it though. Am sure you'll be fine. Also do you get paid or are due some money whilst on hols you may have that to fall back on. My spends will come out of my wages on the 26th, so i'm even less prepared than ever.

Ade another cheap place to eat in or takeaway is from Alin's (Mudurnu chicken), it's just down from tansas or straight across from the red lion, they have burgers, full 10" pizza, chicken in a basket, all served with chips and a can of soft drinks, all for the measly sum of about 8.5lr (last years prices).

Thanks for the replys folks, put my mind at ease. The trouble really when I went last time I drank like a nutter none stop and ate expensive meals mainly every night, steaks especially. It was my first time there and although I'm 43 years old I get a little excited, I'm like a big kid. I'm staying at the Alvaro so I hope my balcony is near the pool low down so then I can fill the fridge up with beer and pop for the kids (pop from the bar certainly eats away at spends) don't fancy climbing stairs everytime I want a drink and drinking my own stuff poolside I'm sure would be taking the p**s and no doubt get me into the bad books. Once again thanks for the replys.

Or use the water jet in the toilet like the turks do, you only need to dry then which uses less toilet roll.
