Maybe the Cafe Erdem needed to compy with the law in the first place regarding planning regulations. The government came down on all resorts and gave the mayors a deadline for haveing all bars that have not complied with the law to either correct the issue which all the bars were given notice of last August, or have the property demolished by the council during the winter.

The first place that the mayor targeted was his daughters restaurant.

This is not a council directive it is a central government one.

Personally, I think the changes which have been made are for the better. The beachfront cafes looked very nice with the decking and everything.

I agree that over all I like the changes that have been made in Icmeler apart from those concerning the raised decking floors at the Erdem and other beach side cafes.I consider them to be unsafe and could be responsible for many an injury.

mayor needs to get a grip.

Thats exactly what he is doing, he has ripped Icmeler to shreds over the winter and had it rebuilt to meet regulation standards and guidelines that quite frankly should have been complied with in the beginning.

I have a feeling these floors at The Erdem, were a last minute quick job to get these places up and running for the season, as if you remember, as the season started , them areas were just grass, and seeing all building work stops on a certain date, I feel they had no choice but to do something quick and easy so they could re open for the season.

Could be wrong though, we will see for sure next season.

As for The Mayor, for all he has done so far in such a short space of time, i.e. the rebuilding, the dogs home, now giving awards to British people for going on holiday to Icmeler for long periods, the new cameras around the resort, I have to say I think, his commitment and hard work, has to be applauded.

the man is tring to stop Icmeler becoming a mini Marmaris and should be left alone to get on with the job.A couple of years ago the hassle was so bad they literally dragged people into some resturants, now if they do that they get penalised with closure. The reason we all go to Icmeler has a lot to do with the things this man is trying to improve and keep the balance which makes us return year after year.If it were to go down the Marmaris route how many of us would be happy?

totally agree with the last 2 posts, progress isn't always a good thing nad if the new old mayor is regressing to how things were a few years ago, he doesn't seem bad at all IMHO - will have to wait five weeks to make my own mind up, but somehow don't think I'll be disappointed

I paid my first visit to Icmeler last September and my second in May of this year.

I agree with virtually every other poster. This year is much improved !

The front looks better and greener, the area round the fountain is fabulous and generally it just looks smarter !

More power to the Mayor !!

already looking forward to our next visit in September.

Just got back rom our first visit to Icmeler and totally loved it, so much that we are definitely going back next year. Visited Marmaris and didn't care for it at all. So if the new mayor's intention is to stop Icmeler becoming a mini Marmaris I wish him all the best. This was our first time in Turkey and if we had stayed in Marmaris we would have to seriously have considered whether we wanted to give Turkey a second chance if Marmaris was a typical example of the Turkish resorts.
