Cash Machines

Hi everyone.

Could anyone tell me how easy it is to use the cash points in icmeler??? is it just like using them at home and how much do you get charged for using them???

Sounds like a daft question but i have never used a cash point abroad before....


also can u use your debit card to pay for meals in the restraunts over there????

The ATM's are exactly the same to use as here, the only difference is you choose your language first.

The rate you are charged depends on your bank, Nationwide being the best, Lloyds TSB being one of the worse.

I would never use a debit card abroad to pay for goods, if it is scammed you have little come back, use a Credit card that has full protection. however the choice is yours but not everywhere accepts them.

If you have a nationwide flexi card they do not charge interest, use it like a normal machine choose the language and if you want lira choose the turkish lira option, there is also £ option if you want to take English money out

About Nationwide, they are starting to charge. They told me to check before I go.

A dramatic U-turn on overseas credit and debit card charges will mean significant new fees for millions of Nationwide customers planning to use their cards abroad, it emerged yesterday. From May, Nationwide customers with a Visa credit card will be charged 0.84 per cent of the value of any transaction made outside Europe. The same fee will apply to debit card holders from 1 June, but the fee will swiftly increase to 1 per cent for both groups of card holders from 1 July.

There is no charge in Turkey i drew money out each day for a week up to 8Th June and i got a better rate than the supermarkets were giving when i got my statement last week

Only if you have a Cash Card Account. If your card says Debit Card you will be charged 1%

RBS charges are as follows:

Any transaction in a foreign currency is converted into sterling at our prevailing exchange rate and a transaction fee of 2.75% is subsequently applied for debit card transactions.

Cash withdrawals - 2% (minimum £2, maximum £5)
Purchase of currency or travellers’ cheques using a Visa Debit card - 2% (minimum £2, maximum £5)
Point of sale transactions - £1.25 per transaction

You can use the Debit card to buy goods but we were talking about drawing cash out of the cash machines.

Do you mean a Flex Account debit card?

There are 2 types of flex account card. A basic CASH CARD which you use to be able to withdraw overseas but they are changing it so you can no longer withdraw cash from atms.

The other card is a VISA DEBIT CARD with which you get a cheque book, unlike the basic CASH CARD. You can still withdraw cash from atms in Turkey with this card, that is unchanged.
