I am sure you have all seen on the news about the mass shootings in Cumbria and that up to 11 people may be dead from it, and I know we don't normally allow these threads, but I am sure you will all join me in offering our condolences to the people of Cumbria, and also give our thoughts and prayers to the families of the deceased.
Please lets not speculate on this, I put this thread up for us to give thought and sympathy to those affected.

Hi everyone,
Yesterday was a dark dark day for us in Whitehaven. I have lived in Whitehaven all my life and nothing like this has ever happened. You see the odd fight on the street between drunks on a weekend or maybe kids arguing in the park but for a taxi driver who we all knew (I have been in his taxi many times) to go out on a rampage and take the lives of 12 innocent people is just pure evil and crazy. It just doesn't happen here. It has changed our town and it will take sometime to recover. We are a close knit community and hopefully we can try to move on from this but it will take a long long time.
R.I.P to everyone who lost their lives yesterday on our sleepy coast. And I hope Derrick gets his comuppence in hell
Karl

Very odd event in my case .Me being David Bird and a taxi driver . The person in question was a D Bird (Derek) a taxi driver but he shot his twin brother David Bird ,At the time i was on the coast at fleetwood and was aware of several police helicopters rushing to the area just a few miles further up the coast and wondered what was going on.Little did i know that my namesake had just been shot dead by his brother .There cant be that many David Birds in the country hence me recieving several phone calls and texts checking on my welfare.

Glad to know you are okay though Birdy. Must have been very strange with the same names, area, taxi drivers etc.

Shocking events, we cannot hope to understand what people are going through
Been to the area several times not only Whitehaven but also Workington and Barrow supporting my Rugby League team over the years.
Always enjoyed the visits and felt what a super part of the world it was.
comiserations to all affected
