Just wondering if Onur Air is classed as a European Carrier. I know its a Turkish airline
but not sure if Onur Air is classed as a European Carrier.
The reason im asking is, in case flights with Onur Air gets cancelled because of this
Volcano Ash Cloud, will people still be able to apply for a refund under the EU Regulation 261.
Under EU Regulation 261, if a flight is cancelled, those flying with European carriers into or out of the EU have the right to a refund or to be re-routed.
Please advise.
Thanks

Onur Air is a Turkish airline so they are not covered by EU regulations.

Turkey isnt in the EU
and therefore the turkish airline Onur Air wont be covered by EU regulations
so no idea how you stand with them if your flights get cancelled due to the ash cloud unfortunately

I have spoken with my insurance company regarding this, as I had booked flights with Aegean and the company they will use is ONUR air
They have advised
To answer your question, outbound journeys from the UK are covered under holiday abandonment (section 9 of your policy wording), and the volcanic ash is being treated as 'adverse weather conditions'. Currently we offering cover holiday abandonment for cancellation of holidays leaving the UK, subject to terms and conditions
Please note you cannot claim for holiday abandonment on return journeys and also be aware that if you are traveling to or from an airport that currently is closed due to volcanic ash or there is an airspace ban at the time of purchasing your travel insurance policy or trip which ever is the later, you will not be able to claim for travel delay or abandonment due to the Volcanic Ash. We would advise you to please check the media news and with your Travel Operator or Holiday Company as the situation is changing on a daily basis. ”
In terms of passengers stranded abroad, the cover offered under the terms of the policy is for travel delay. The amount is shown on the summary of cover located on your policy schedule. This amount is £20 for each insured person for each complete twelve hours of delay experienced. The total claimable amount per person is up to what is specified on the cover limit for Travel Delay.
I think the best thing is for people to contact their insurance companies to find out if they are covered
I will have to get back onto them as I am still no clearer what will happen in the event that our return flights are camcelled. Yes I will get £20 for evry 12 hours delay but how do I get home if the flight is delayed for days
Keeping my fingers crossed as I am due out next weekend
We keep getting told to contact our airlines for further information. Who do we contact, is it Aegean or ONUR air

I'm flying with Onur Air on the 27th - so fingers crossed. I'm not bothered about the return flight though - as long as I get to Icmeler, I'll be happy. My insurance company has written to say we're covered for delays etc relating to the volcanic ash, so yes, best to check with whoever you've got insurance with.
