Old Town area?

Hi All, I understand our accomodation is in the old town area of Icmeler..... now we dont mind the walk down to the main areas or the beach and looking at the map, I think we can walk the length of the canal bank maybe?
We were just wondering about the old town - Is it a big/small area? Are there the pretty little alleys to meander round? Are there little restaurants or tavernas that the locals frequent?

Any info or recommendations guys? Thanks.....

The old town area is as big as the main areas, you wont find alleys to walk round or under, instead you will find lots of small streets with front gardens filled with flora, chickens and fruit + veg.It is not the same as old village's you would find in greece or spain.
One place I could recomend is Cafe Rose, not sure if it is popular with locals, but more a true reflection on how the locals live, It has a few tables in the front garden shadaed by vines above, booking is advised.
For me this area of Icmeler is the perfect setting at the bottom of the hills.Pure bliss.

Thanks Jambo, actually I wondered if the old village was similar to Rhodes old town or the ancient well trodden alleys of Lindos... seems not then, but Im sure we'll love the gardens and unspoiled peace of it anyways.
We love our peace & quiet but not adverse to a halleyracket fun night out or three too! - hoping for the best of both worlds.

Hi Sunny
I think the nearest you will find to Rhodes old town will be Marmaris castle / Marina area, these are narrow alleys with bars, if you go round to the right of the castle, the bars there are slightly cheaper than on the main front near the Bazzar.

The best of both worlds is what Icmeler old town gave us.
Old Village style on your doorstep, and a halleyracket fun night out if we wanted it, anything from 5-15 mins away and you are near the fun pubs if you want them.
You cant beat the feeling of the old village area ,

Can I suggest to you the old village area up next to the dry Canal,.

Steve - thanks, we will take a pootle into Marmaris and check it out, see the sights there, the caste etc and of course - the market! lol!

Jambo - we're staying in the Eden Gardens - they get great reviews on TA and HT but I havent seen any mention of them on here.
Being a little further out doesnt bother us.
- My next quest is to find out what you guys are saying about the fun pubs/entertainment etc.

Hi, we stayed at the Old Town last year and at Eden Gardens, it was fantastic - that good that we came straight home and booked again for September as did a lot of other people who went. Its about a 15 minute stroll into the main part and we never took the bus, just always walked as it is so nice. Tommy's restaurant (2 mins from the apartments) is fantastic and we ate there quite a lot since it was so handy.

You'll have a great time! :)

Hi All

I don't know if this is possible but could anybody tell me the boundaries of what is known as the "old village" are there four restaurants / apartments that would define the corners or the outer extremeties....or does anybody actually know?

John

I would say that when you reach the Tansas road that is you in the town as opposed to the old village, but thats just my opinion. I'm sure everyone has their own definition
