Goingto icmeler in august getting picked by private car though ICR do i tip the driver & how mutch,also what about on holliday.

Tipping is a personal thing and in my opinion a tip is only given after a satisfactory service.
The Taxi driver from the airport I give 20 ytl about £8 and there are 3 of us I give this on both journeys.
The barmen at our apartments who also looks after all our needs I give £20 after my fortnights holiday.
Restaurents I stopped Tipping because the wife picked up all my tips one year and they amounted to £75 that is equal to 2 evenings out.
That is my tipping and as I say people do there own thing but you tip how much and as often as you can afford or want to.

I'm glad this question was asked, we have been to Turkey 13 times but I still never know how much to tip. When we first went we gave tips everywhere we went, usually between 10 + 20% of the bill. As Gene said, over a fortnight it adds up to quite a lot of money, so we stopped tipping when we only had drinks. I have been told that in a lot of restaraunts the lads do not get a wage, they only get a share of tips. Does anyone know if this is right?.
At our apartments, we leave tips for the barstaff and cleaner at the end of our holiday.

What about all you other regulars, when + who do you tip and when dont you.

Transfer driver normally a £5 both ways

Restaurants when having a meal I round up the bill by roughly 10% if well looked after

Restaurants and bars just having a drink I leave 2-3 lira

Lads at the apartment bar nomally get about £50-£60 over the two weeks, this is made up of change everyday when I settle my bill, the odd red bull drink which last year was 8Lira, and then a larger tip at the end of the holiday.

Cleaner £20 at the end of the holiday

Jeep Safari driver 20 Lira

Boat trip crew 20 Lira

Thinking about it i reckon its not far short of £200 over the holiday, maybe time to cut down a bit.

We used to tip absolutely everybody, until a woman in one of the apartments we stayed in 2 years ago pointed out how much we were spending on tips. I used to even leave a tip if we went in a bar and bought 2 bottles of water.

Now I tip about 5 lira after a good meal.
I leave the 2 cleaning ladies 20 lira each at the end of the holiday.
I leave 20 lira for the bar staff at the end of the holiday, but I buy them a few drinks during the holiday - plus all the cigarettes they scrounge
Taxi transfer, I tip 5 lira each way.
If we do trips and had a good laugh with the hosts, I leave 10 lira tip.

I used to think it was compulsory/good manners to leave tips all the time, but at the end of the day, we all work hard to get our short time in paradise without just giving it all away.

I would suggest tip what you feel for the service you received, but above all, just have a great holiday and dont worry too much about the tips.

I have even had room upgrades,late checkout room for free and sea view room all for a bar of Cadburys.

The waiters at our apartments love wurthers originals, but the packets I took I never considered as a tip, more as a gift.

This has been a useful and fascinating thread but I am a bit puzzled by the references to chocolate and other sweet things. As I've never tried to buy chocolate in Icmeler, or any holiday destination, I don't know how difficult or expensive it is. Is Cadburys chocolate (and the other mentioned sweets) very expensive or difficult to buy in Icmeler?

Most of the Turkish folk we've met seem to have a very sweet tooth, and we just thought it would be a nice gesture to take across some shortbread for them. They absolutely loved it.

Thanks blondie. Newcastle doesn't seem to have an equivalent to shortcake so it would have to be iced splits from Greggs - and they wouldn't travel well.

Anything that is imported, tends to be very expensive in Turkey. We take chocolate with us, not to use as a tip, but just to give to friends, and as blondie says, the Turkish do seem to have very sweet tooths. We do tend to have a fancy for a bit of galaxy ourselves on holiday, goes down nice with a cold efes

We always take Rose from 'Cafe Rose' boxes of Maltesers. She absolutely loves them. I buy them for a £1 each in Poundland. Good way of tipping!
