Well, we met a Tommys and started the climb. Ronnie got stung by a wasp within 2 minutes in his armpit and then turned on me. So there I am doing this stupid dance trying to get it off me and was sweating loads.

After taking a wrong turn we finally made it. Got to the flag and there was a Turkish guy there with a replacement flag. Could not have timed it any better. So we all chipped in to hold the ladder. We were then shown the short cut back. 20 mins later we were drinking Efes and coke 8)

May I take this opportunity to thank Ronnie, Carol, Darren, Adrian and Shannon (13 years old) for great company. Most enjoyable!!!

Will post photos and directions for others.

Well done to you all. Look forward to seeing your pictures. Would love to climb it too when I am there in September. My hubby and I tried to find the way to start last year but couldn't find it.

Belated reply, now back in Blighty and all the rain :(

Great to meet you all on the climb, even though we took the tough route it was well worth it, got some lovely photos. Now to save some money for next year's visit.

I'll post a photo in the images thread.

Nice to meet you Darren, we got back this morning, hate it. Roger (Mister Mischief) gets back tomorrow, spent a load of time with him and his family he reckons he's going to put the biggest amount of photos on the photo gallery ever seen, and believe me when I say he took hundreds. We've booked for next year going on the 18th August, me and me young un are up for another climb, via the flip flop this time though.

If we're there next year I'm up for another trip up, but definitely via the easy route this time! Came home to lovely letters from HM Revenue and Council demanding more money so I can't begin to think about next year right now

It's not easy to describe, go a short distance up the gravelled access road and you'll find a path on the left. When we did it, the path was marked by some cobbled pavers and a single flip flop! We'd commented on the flip flop as we passed on the way up, if only we had known then that it marked the route up!

That path zig zags up the hill towards the flag and the final steeper part brings you to the flag on the right of it (as you look at the flag with Icemeler behind you).

We completely missed this path on our ascent and went up the valley on the right and then cut across to the flag from behind it. It was much harder and almost completely through this bush for the latter third, definitely not recommended, I was in trousers but others were in shorts <ouch>!

Thankfully the guys we met at the flag who were installing the replacement pointed us in the direction of the easy route for the descent, and thank goodness for that as none of us were relishing the prospect is returning the way we came.

Had a great morning with lovely people, was really hard going up through lots of brambles, scratches just about disappearing now! Couldn't have timed it better though, if we HAD gone up the 'easy' way, we wouldn't have been there for the unveiling of the new flag! We are completely fed up now we're back home, can't wait to go back, I'm scouring the websites looking for the best priced flights daily.

We will attempt to put pics on later today.
