I see the rate is still quite good, currently showing as 2.849 on my laptop desktop gadget - hope it stays nice and high for the rest of the year :)

It's been getting worse over the last month from a high of 2.91 to 2.82 today on the currency markets, it did the same last year until March and then started a recovery.

On Friday the bank rate hit it's 12 month low dropping from 2.79 to 2.74 in a day, started a small recover today, I hope it continues, hopefully the UK dip from the last quarter will be revised upwards and help as well.

Glad we took the opportunity to buy some when we were there in September - think the rate had hit the high 90s at that point 2.98 or 2.99, maybe?

to be honest it doesn't really bother me this year as I will have over £3,000 spending money (had a good year and a full diary of disco's for this year - that's my spends).

So long as it doesn't drop to a silly rate, should be ok...

Last year when we went we got about 2.88 in resort, we budget £50 per day per person so we will be taking £2800 for 14 days, however if the excahnge rate drops to 2.60 in resort we will need to change another £272 to have the same buying power, thats quite a lot when you look at it that way god forbid if it hits 2010 levels at 2.30 we will need an extra £560.

So far we have been lucky that the Government tax increases have been offset with better Exchange rates, I think it will recover but still keeping fingers crossed just in case.

Having said all the above, it's still Icmeler and for a great holiday will be worth the extra if necessary, it's me being greedy thinking of all the Efes I will get for less money.

well last year, like I said, we spent an average of £100 per day for 3 of us (me, my wife and 15 year old daughter) and didn't feel like we needed more to be honest. some days were 'cheap' days and some more expensive due to trips etc.

But as we're going for 14 days this time I think we will need a bit extra so have budgeted for double (per day) what we took last year...

I think the most we spent on a meal was around 100 TL (around £37-£40) including starter, main & drinks for all 3 of us - would struggle to get that over here (ok, maybe a MacDonalds or Burger King  )

Well if thats another £230 to take to make up from the great exchange rate next year or I could just make my wife switch from Gin to Efes for a similar saving

Edit I should have said last year and not next year

Could save even more if I could get my 20 year old to drink Efes instead of pop, always amazes me that pop is more expensive and is not taxed with duty,

a 20 year old drinking pop? Wow, almost unheard of these days, even my 15 year old daughter had a few Efes last year (she also had a brandy & coke - then we got to see what she had for dinner - yuk! )

Don't get me wrong, I don't condone underage drinker per-se but I think she has a decent head on her shoulders and if you can't have a drink or two on holiday, when can you? I'd rather I be there to 'supervise' her drinking than her doing it on the streets etc.

My son and his girlfriend, both nearly 20 don't drink alcohol either. It's not because they have never had the chance because all of us parents like a drink, especially me.I wonder if the exchange rate this year will encourage more people to go AI , must admit that is my choice as our favourite hotel is between Icmeler and Marmaris so a decent walk into Icmeler in the evening.

I'll never go AI, heard far too many 'horror stories' about food left out all day, food not being very hot/nice, under-cooked chicken, watered-down drinks...the list goes on.

And especially somewhere like Icmeler where you can eat at a different restaurant every night for 2 weeks (or more) why would you want to be 'tied down' - Definitely not for me, self catering all the way :)

Good news today with the UK not going into a triple dip recession, the £ stengthened immediately from 2.75 to 2.78 Lira, good news for the people out there at the moment.
