I was not directly talking about bad manners as such. More about reviews left on holiday truths and other review sites, and having experience in the hotel industry. The kind of things people sometimes complain about are sometimes beyond a businesses control, or the kind of things some people would not bat an eye lid at. I am just saying it is in some peoples nature to complain when and where they can. I am not saying all the reviews I have read are like that, but people will slate a resort or hotel and say they will never go back for the most trivial thing.

I found that the restaurants weren't a problem last year, but the hassle from the hairdressers and jewellers was twice as bad! and a bit rude. I wouldn't dream of being rude to any of the people trying to make a living there, but I was sorely 'tested' some days

Have to agree with you about the hassle from the hairdressers,the one along from the Blue Rainbow Hotel,Excellence i think it's called, they actually done my head in with the constant hassle, i did eventually start crossing over the road before i walked by.

Majority of restaurants i found not bad, most of the time they were happy with a no thanks

Jula,i know the hairdresser you are on about.My wife went in there for a pedicure and manicure so i sat outside with the owner who gave me a beer.While i was sitting outside with him he hassled every young woman that passed by.I said to him ,why do you do this and he said it is the turkish way to do business.I said ,why don't you offer a free manicure with a hairdo and he said ,no way so there you go

We have been going to Icmeler every year since 2003.... we have met quite alot of people there over the last few years.... fellow Brits and Turks... I was astounded last year when on our way to a restaurant I walked past a hairdressers and a guy outside it asked if I would go in for my haircut... My hair is short anyway!! Always has been.... plus always get it cut before I go on holiday.... when I said 'no thanks its ok' he put middle finger up at me and told me to F Off!!! I was mortified!! I saw red!!! Could have easily gone for him... but didn't want to create a scene...!! Giving Icmeler a miss this year.. not just because of that reason.... but don't want to overdo it.. becoming too familiar..trying pastures new

Mad's other half here, I can understand some of the points regarding hassle but we just politly say no and find that is enough.Something to think about, if you had to make enough money in a 7 month period to last you the rest of the year wouldn't you be doing the same, trying to tempt as many people as possible, a lot of the front men are paid on a point system. So the sums are pretty simple No customers=No points= No pay. Give the lads a break, after all if they weren't there to work the holiday resorts wouldn't be able to operate.So no holidays for us.

I was dreading the hassle in Turkey before we went for the first time. It was no were near as bad as I was expecting . We had been to Tunisia years ago and I was expecting it to be similar to that. Thankfully it wasnt

You have to take into account different degrees of "hassle"I would much prefer to use the word invited by someone stood in a doorway to have a drink or a meal in there bar or restaurant we would consider it,but if someone is in our faces being pushy and Harrassing us to use there bar or restaurant we will probably just walk away but try and be as polite as possible,we all know how well mannered and polite the Turkish people can be and there is no point being intimidating by harrassing people going by ther bar or restaurant,I don't even call this hassle it is just annoying and not what people want on holiday,we have been in bars in Turkey and they have not had the drink we wanted and have gone out to the shop to buy it especially,or we asked where we could buy something and they have gone out of there way to show you were to go,and the last time we were in Icmeler in 2005 we had a meal in Ozzy's restaurant and asked if we could watch the Liverpool game but he could not get it on his TV so he drove us to The Footballers Wives bar where we could watch it on the big screen,I don't know if anyone has been the Canary Isles on holiday but the last time we were there about 7 years ago the harrassment from the time share touts was far worse than anything in Turkey.

I dont mind the friendly banter with any of the guys out front. If I have no intention of going in to their establishment I say a polite no thanks, but I will stop and talk to them. That is one of the attractions of Turkey.

I do draw the line though when they start to get offensive to me or my Husband though, nobody asks for that. Yes I can understand they only work 7 months of the year and money may be tight, but there is no need for the attitutude Re: Baron guy, who is the only person I have met who is downright rude and nasty, and seemingly very proud of it.

The Turkish doormen, shop keepers and the like do not come close to the touts in Tenerife

Got to agree about the Baron guy- after 10years my parents decide to give in one year and have a drink...and then the next day he STILL hassled!!! but like alot are saying we always cross over from him,to avoid!!
See someone mentioned Tenerife too...i went there with my friends,in between trips to Icmeler and that is what you call getting hassled! They would all wait together on a corner and literally had hold of us taking us to their bars.....Turkey is a walk in a park compared to that!!!!

Got to agree with you ther Geovil. We stayed in Maspalomas, but we ventured into Playa De Englis because wasn't alot to do to where wstayed for 10 days. We had Towts following us down the street, asking if we wanted to go in there bar, or could they sort us out with any drugs. So the Towts in Icmeler are pussycats compared to the ons in the Canarys.
