Monkey on the beach

I know everyone is thinking about the monkeys welfare, but before everyone rushes up to Sylvias to complain.

Please think this through, what do you think will happen to the monkey?
The owner cannot just let it go loose can they, so what would their other options be.

Follow Sunluvrs lead.
Take a photo of the monkey and send it to Monkey World, they are experts on this subject and will know the best way to handle things

Good points to consider, I've seen this happen before in resorts in Asia. People complain then the animal is poisoned or disposed of by other means.

Is there more than 1 Sylvia's. Is the monkey in the Sylvia's that is in the old village by the school. i think there is a picture that Gene took on this link http://www.icmeleronline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5420 . I was there last summer and didn't see any monkey there. Its owned by a lady from Newcastle. Di.

Sylvia has just opened a new restaurant it is a few yards away from Turbo Teds opposite the garden centre, the other is by the school, we went to the new one and did not see a monkey, also walked past the one by the school a few times and did not see a monkey there either

We also seen the monkey in Sylvia's (opposite the school)..he showed us the small monkey and asked us to eat there. I told him it was cruel and would certainly not eat or drink in the restaurant because of the cruelty to animals. He just laughed and suggested I set it free, but I did not know what I could do. I am so glad that there is an organisation that can do something for a defenceless animal. I have also seen young elephants begging for food in Thailand, but when I asked who could I report this to I was told that the money they made fed the older elephants. I also seen a lion cub in Mexico being used for photographs. It is so sad that animals are abused in this way, and hope that the rescue organisations can make a difference.

Just wondering what the situation is with the monkey. Has anyone seen it recently and where?

It was in Sylvias next to De Ja Vue last week. He's called charlie. Was talking to the woman that owns him, and she said she is moving him to her new rstraunt, where they are building a big enclosure for him.

Any more news on this monkey? I won't go in any restaurants where they use animals that should be in the wild to attract customers.

We can back a week ago did not see it this time.

I was there in July at the old village and I saw the poor monkey at Sylvia's nearly every day.I spoke to the Geordie Lady (I use the word Lady very loosely-no Lady would treat an animal like that) and told her it was cruel, she told me she had rescued it from Istanbul and it would have been killed and that it reguarly went to the shop across the road (to get a banana?? yea right!!) I mentioned it to the apt owner and he said it was common knowledge she had bought it from another bar, also everyone I spoke to said they had never seen it out of the cage When she next invited me to spend money in her restaurant (I declined!) I told her what I had learned and she got angry and said I did not know about other countries. I told her about when I lived in Kenya and monkeys like this were roaming free in hotel grounds,bush etc and they looked happy.My heart went out to that poor monkey and it looked so sad. I have contacted various people since I got home but no-one knew what could be done so I am happy I saw this and if enough people act and contact monkeyworld and boycott Sylvia's (it may not be there now but it will have been moved or sold) then people there may get the message and understand that the majority of us Brit's will not stand for cruelty of this nature and at the same time do something for this beautiful little monkey.

I haven't been to Sylvia's since being ripped off in 2004 ( badly) so now I know about the monkey I definately won't be going back. Monkeys should be running free in the wild, not cooped up in a cage.

a chap on one of the boats had a little green faced monkey with him this year which he keeps with him on a lead
the monkey seemed friendly/happy enough and he reckoned that he'd found it in the mountains - how true that is I don't know
