You guys have just solved a little mystery for me!
I often wondered how my ex Turkish boyfriend managed to spend 20 minutes on the loo and not use any toilet paper!

So does the pipe pull out? As I recall in all the hotels/aparts I've stayed in the pipe has only been about half an inch long with water drizzling downwards (yeah, i thought it was to keep the loo clean too!) - I've never seen one as long as in Dianne's photos!

Can't wait to give it a go!!!

Most toilets have a very small pipe as part ofthe toilet bowl and not a thin metal pipe hanging down that has been added.

It swivels about so you can actually aim it  at yourself for pinpoint accuracy.

Ok on your own personal toilet but not very good on a public one in a bar

John, I really can't understand how, after all the years you've been out there, you haven't heard loads of people complaining about the smelly bins in the toilets if they havent been using the pipe. Is it a British thing and folk dont like to discuss it, or do you just turn your head and smile a knowing smile

I can't remember putting "dirty" paper in to the bins as I have always used the pipe

I was never told about it though but as I was being nosey one day and turned the tap on next to the toilet while sitting bored I got quite a shock  and thats how it all started.

One thing I will say though is when you have been in Icmeler all season there are two things that take some getting used to when you are home in the UK.

Using tap water instead of looking in the fridge for water and looking for the tap next to the toilet

You know when I think about it you're right John, when I come home from holiday, the first few times I use the loo, I do find myself reaching for the wheel :)

I asked my parents yesterday, mum looked at me horrified while dad cool as a cucumber said oh yes I knew what that was for

He was a plumber by trade so I guess he should know

I said thanks for telling us Dad, *oh yes it comes in very handy* was his reply

This is still cracking me up. I am sitting here in work on nights, and my colleague is thinking I have finally cracked. Through tears I am trying to explain to him about the "wee wheel" and the "pipe" in the Turkish loos.

Oh man, roll on April 29th until I try it.

So I take it that, as folk come back from Turkey we're going to have a thread on the merits of the "Turkish bidet"

Right ! we've now fully established the workings of the small pipe but we are still left with the drying issue.

Now I've been thinking about this and have come up with a solution  . Yes I know it needs some tinkering before I go onto Dragons Den but I think we could do away with the paper completely.

What do you think ?

I used the water pipe for years but had to stop using the brush at the side of the toilet as it was making my naughty bits to sore.

Do all of the loos in Turkey have this pipe?

I have stayed at four different hotels in Turkey, and have never noticed the pipe before.
