Seems to be quite confusing all this and there is one story being heard and then another story being heard and I doubt I am alone in saying we are a bit confused! I am not flying for two weeks and hopefully things will be back to normal by then. On the news today it was explaining that you can now take books etc, however this does not kick into effect until tomorrow morning at 4.30am which I found odd. I would say the best thing to do is anyone that is flying the next few days to ring the specific airport they are flying from and check exactly what the state of play is with them. :)

Hi

Just been watching the news and like everyone i was completly confused by all the different advice. I now kind of understand what going on - your now allowed to take a small item of hand luggage with all the items which were mentioned on thursday last week, also mobile phones, mp3 players, laptops and hairdryers (honestly who takes this in their hand luggage anyway) are allowed.
Liquids are still a no go area - however you can buy a book, newspaper or magazine to take on the flight after you passed through passport control.
They never said anything about being able to buy perfume etc when in duty free but not sure how they can stop you from doing so as it will be sealed.

I e-mailed Newcastle airport yesterday regarding cigarettes and perfume. The reply was that you can buy cigarettes from duty free and as long as they are unopened they can be taken on the aircraft. Perfume can be bought but cannot be taken on the aircraft so Newcastle have a collect on return service. Hope this helps.
