I never bothered with the Tick drops if you use a cotton bud to apply a thick coating of vaseline on the tick it is unable to breathe and will just drop off, saves messing around with tweezers as if one of the pincers are left in it could become infected.

Vinegar is good if your going to get them out, splash vinegar on the tick and use tweezers and twist it anti clock wise at the head part, you do it at this part as it makes the tick shrivel and the whole thing comes out, as SAndy says, if the pincer or head is left in the dog can get a nasty infection.
