yeah when you meet people they take a genuine interest in you which is such a refreshing change to being in the UK as no one has time to speak to you as we are all rushing around
turkish people are like that in their own villages too though
hope you have a good time at the mosque :)

After reading some of the earlier post can I just say we went to Icmeler for the 1st time in Aug. and it is a magical place, We fell in love with Icmeler, the people are great, friendly, helpful, nothing is to much trouble. we stayed in the old village and everyday walked down to the beach through the old part near the mosque and was greeted with a smile and Good Morning every time. We cant wait to get back next year and are counting the days. The food was great and have no complaints what so ever, enjoyed it so much put a half a stone on in two weeks!!!!:( but well worth it:)
So anyone having doubts please don't it is a wonderful magical place and we are well and truly Icmeler converts:)

Going back 2 weeks on monday for the second time this year.
First time was a nightmare....................just going down the mountain to Maramaris when we turned the mobile on.
In an instant a text from my daughter................My Mum had had a near fatal heart attack and was in intensive care. Needless to say the next hour was a complete blur. In fact so was the next three days :(

Anyway, after a triple heart by pass, are going back to have the holiday we didn't have in May (spent the whole time on the phone!) and 2 weeks monday are going back to Icmeler and can't wait.

I have warned the family..........behave, I don't want to know!

Gene- how beautiful.....i love the sentiments behind your post- they always make me smile :D

a couple of years ago, my son left his DS behind in the apartment as we left....we didnt know it was missing until we were on the plane....and had no idea where it was....1 year later, back in icmeler, it was given back to us....hows that for honesty....

when we first started going and we did get hassle, hubby always used to shake there hands, and say, no thanks, or have a little chat ( unless it was the bloke from the Baron) now when we visit, they all still shake his hand and say hello.....and always remember him , how nice is that.....

in june i went to icmeler with my friend for 1 week.....we arrived quite late, and went to the 24 hour place for some food...opposite a little supermarket where we change our money.....i hadnt seen the owner, but he had seen me, was across the road, with babe in arms, to show me his new daughter....how proud was he, and i got a lovely cuddle....

i asked about phone cards and he promtly, took me up the road, showed me how to use it, the code ect, talk about looking after us.....

the turkish people, in my eyes are lovely hosts ( most of them ) and i have a giddy on just thinking about us all going back in august- and as it will be my daughters 16th birthday, we hsall be celebrating!

We came home yesterday and whilst we were there we got a bit lost in the side streets, it was scorching and we were melting.
Suddenly this lady was waving & shouting to us, I didn't quite recognise her and looked around thinking she was waving to someone else and then I realised she was a lady from the beach who has sunbeds with her son Nafis.
he took us into her garden where she and her sister were chopping tomatoes & chilli peppers.
She gave us a seat to rest in the shade and gave us water & a cup of turkish tea, we felt quite refreshed.
They didn't speak very good English but we communicated and had a laugh, where else do you find hospitality like that?

We also had to walk back to our apartments in the old village at usually 3am after a night out ( I think this is the best time of the day, its just cool and peaceful) and we didn't feel threatened or nervous at all, in fact if we did see any Turkish people they just wished us a pleasant goodnight.

For me Icmeler improves every year (2002,03,05,06,07,08,09,10), we only get one holiday a year and I need the following:--

Good Weather
Good Food & Drnk
Value for Money
Good Service
Hospitality
Safety
Somewhere I can relax or party

Icmeler for me ticks alll the boxes and we are again booked for next year, my problem is my 14 year old has asked to go somewhere else in 2012 as she doesn't remember other holidays as she was too young, may have to bribe her with a two centre holiday so we get at least a week back in Icmeler.

Roll on 2011

The waiters etc will always have patter and maybe more for the young ladies, a harder line if they think that they have a route to Britain via their "honey", and banter for passers by - this is the beauty of any Turkish resort that i've been to in 14 years or so.

Icmeler is in my top two for resort and facilities, Altinkum up there for the amount of Turkish friends, only on the amount of visits and one particular hotel family, and further east, Antalya etc is lower due to the amount of Russians who don't behave properly.

Only ever been knowingly cheated once, and that was 13 years ago, in Altinkum, and dealt with promptly by local police.

My only criticism for all resorts is lack of yearly updating on evening entertainment - please look at something different to Michael Jackson dance shows and Robots with light shows. We tend to walk off the evening meal and observe many bars / restaurants with exactly the same routines every night, and my bugbear is a lack of live music and other forms of entertainment, not local amateurs but someone with some experience of holding audiences.

For 1st timers - great, but Icmeler certainly doesn't cater for 1st timers, well only once, cos you want to return, and return, so please find something newer or different.

If someone had the guts and cash to set up a proper variety night of varied family entertainment they would be on a money spinner. No moans about an entrance fee, slightly higher drinks prices, good menu etc and full every night - a variation of the Talk of the Town in Marmaris, which I thoroughly enjoyed twice this year. Do any local dance groups perform the traditional Dervish dances in costume - what a spectacular that would be for any hotel area!

What other cultural types of entertainment would go down in Icmeler - I certainly would not object to a cover charge to be professionally entertained at night and that's as someone who has already paid for All Inclusive at the hotel! This may not suit long term stayers over a month of renting a property but for the two weekers, there needs to be some variety again!

Would it be worth asking the regulars on here if they have new ideas from their holiday experiences as to new ways to bring in customers... and keep them?

Next year - Altinkum at Whitsun hols (14th time) to see private hotel owning Turkish family friends again after not going for 3 years - hope it may have changed for the better after all of the estate agencies springing up, then Icmeler again later in the year for my 5th visit !

When all is said and done icmeler is still my favourite place on this planet.
I dont feel safe walking through edinburgh at night but know that I can walk through Icmeler at any time and not have any bother.
I know i annoyed the admins by posting about a few experiences whilst on holiday but I wasnt meaning to dwell on negatives as I love Icmeler and couldnt imagine never going back there again.

Just trying to decide if I book 2 weeks in Icmeler in february when I know most stuff will be closed or do I go to Egypt and take my summer break in Icmeler, or do i go twice? its a tough life lol.
