Should be quite good as the bank rate is 2.85 this morning. Generally while I was in
Icmeler 4 weeks ago (seems like a lifetime away now

) it was around the same as the bank rate. We were getting 2.82 when we arrived but it dropped to 2.76 by the time we left.
As we were only changing a little at a time (around £100) we would just use the
hotel who were offering 2.7.
Have a good holiday, my next one will be July/August 2013

Just bought some lira off Travelfx at a rate of 2.7925, you need to use this link to order at that rate because its a special offer, not sure how long its on for. If you order over £500 its free delivery

Just a friendly warning about buying currency from a company that doesn't accept debit/credit card payments. If anything goes wrong, for example if the firm goes into administration, your money isn't protected at all if you've sent a bank
transfer to them. A
slightly lower rate may be more beneficial in the long run if you can pay by debit/credit card so you have Section 75/Visa Chargeback protection.

Yeah I know that Kneale, but the rate was just so good and I've used this company for years with no problem and you are insured for delivery. If you read the terms and conditions it tells you that your money is kept in a separate account so seems quite safe to me.

If you use a Turkish bank today to change your money they will normally in most banks take a cut of a point drop so you will still get 2.86 for your money here
If you change a £1,000 in the UK in one of these places (the one mentioned has dropped and then one I check now and then travelex is even lower then you will get a lower rate than Turkey)
You are £24 better off changing £1,000 in the resort
Not a lot I know but then it is a couple of meals out

£ still getting stronger today, current interbank rate is 2.875

We'll be arriving at the same time, hoping the same
Took a chance not changing our money to lira. We bought our starting funds when it was up around 2.80 in the resort, for 2.78 off our bank. We've just been saving our pounds since, even though the rate fell a bit to around 2.7 on travelfx and I was starting to wonder if we had made the right choice. So glad we persevered as the gain would be worth around 240 lira (or a couple of good meals for us and the 2 kids) from our spends than if we had chucked in the towel a month or so ago

Assuming the rate stays the same I should add...

2.87 at Best Supermarket last night at 1am

It's near its peak. In the time we've been going to Içmeler the highest rate we've seen is 2.9 and that is there, so the rate at home would have been less. We've already changed money for next year with travelfx a couple of weeks ago whilst it was 2.8. We should have waited but it's always a gamble, it could easily have gone down. Still, we're happy enough with 2.8, all we need to do now is fast forward the next 289 days

Just had a text from Dotty, she said its 2.89 today. Fantastic rate.
