I've never had a proper Turkish kebab, just the suspect things we get here. What's a Turkish kebab like?

blondie thanks for your reply. i really do think that ,between our nations britain has the edge on the breakfast but. i.e.porridge/or bran flakes, best back bacon, fresh egg, toast etc. out strips turkish olives, cucumber ,hard boiled egg, there corn flakes are not as good as ours ,more taste in eating the cardboard box ? but i do think we come 2nd on fresh bread... also changing the subject, the current bun up in the sky, 21 degrees today, and 10 wks tomorrow to take off. I do love a good traditional fry-up breakfast, I must admit (perhaps because I only indulge when on holiday :D ) but a really good Turkish breakfast, such as the one daughter and I enjoyed at Cinar, takes some beating! It was absolutely delicious - in a different league altogether from the usual hotel-style Turkish breakfasts, although I personally quite enjoy those too.

No, it's about 12 kms (I think) outside Marmaris in a lovely rural area. You'd have to either hire a car or get a taxi (not sure how expensive that would work out) - we were taken there by friends we met while on holiday in October. I believe there are another couple of similar places not too far from Icmeler - perhaps John or others on the forum who have visited these places can provide more information.

Have to agree with blondie about the Turkish breakfast at Cinar. We went on a day trip last October and the breakfast there was to die for. We also used to enjoy Turkish breakfast at Can's Cafe along the walkway towards Marmaris although the last couple of times we were disappointed with the quality. Occasionally at home we try to recreate a Turkish style breakfast for special occasions so I'm hoping there might be a little treat in store on Sunday for mother's day! Hint to Zeynep1985! - Apologies off topic. I've really enjoyed reading all the suggestions on here and will certainly try to get to some different restaurants during our visit in May.

My favourite has to be well made Menemen.

The first time i had this dish was in the back of the little light shop in the underground shopping area by the cash machines. I could see someone eating and enquired as to what it was. In next to no time me and the wife were sitting around the pot eating what was supposed to be their tea! I love the Turks. I now recreate this dish at home and it is as good at home as it is in Icmeler, it just lacks that little taste of sunshine.....you know what i mean

Ooh, I actually had Menemen for my lunch one day on the beach! Saw it on the menu (think it might have been Coco Beach) and decided to take the plunge and order it - it was lovely!

Menemen is basically Turkish scrambled eggs. Named after the town (Menemen). It consists of Onion,Garlic,Red & Green Peppers & Chilli Pepper all diced very small and shallow fried in oil. Then pulped Tomatoes are added and simmered for a short while. You then add beaten Eggs (5 or 6) and cook untill the egg is sort of not quite set as in our scrambled egg but a little runnier. Season with salt & Pepper and serve with ( in this country) Crusty Bread or in Turkey that lovely bread fresh from the supermarket.

You don't see it on all menus but if you ask you will get it no problem. The best place to eat it is the Cafe Del Mar at lunch time with a glass of Efes. Absolutely Idyllic.

At home it makes a nice evening meal and brings back fond memories of days past and waters your mouth ready for your next trip.

Many recipies can be found on the web

Yeah mixed grills from just about anywhere, chicken wraps from the Erdem Cafe on the beach, Liver and Onions from the Chef Restaurant, Sunday Roast and the gigantic yorkshire puddings from the Three Bells, just about anything really it's actually hard to find a bad meal anywhere in Icmeler. :)

I am starving reading this thread, especially since I am back on my diet from yesterday, but my favourite Turkish food is Sac Kavurna. I have not had a bad one anywhere I have eaten it.

Quaker57

Sac Kavurma is "lamb with stir fried vegetables"

Sounds nicer in Turkish doesn't it? LOL
