Calm down old bean. Portugal, Spain and Greece - where we usually holiday. Many resorts in these countries are well within 5 hours - and dont involve a 2 hour transfer from the airport.
We thought we'd try Turkey this year as we'd heard good reports of it. I was persuaded to ignore the 5 hour flight + 2 hour transfer. If it works out this year then then we'll probably come again. However, if it becomes more expensive, as the minister seems to want, that 5 hours + 2 hours won't be worth the bother.

Our SC Holiday for a family of 4 in turkey in August @ £1300.00 - 4 years ago same holiday in Majorca was £3500. Nowhere can you get a family holiday (in school holiday times) cheaper than Turkey. impossible.

Saddly the minister seems to want to stop that sort of thing & go "up market".

I can see where he's coming from - but what all the apartment owners will do, will be a completely different matter

Well I just spent an age replying to Hector and it didn't work so to put it in a few words.

Spain, Portugal and Greece if you think they are cheap then you had better get a longer visa and just book a one way to Turkey as compared to prices in Icmeler they are very very very expensive

I have not returned to any country in Europe that has entered the Euro currency, call it silly or anything else but,
as with everything else PRICES RISE, I`m sorry I didn`t start going to Turkey sooner, If places price themselves out of the market I will refuse to go. When I go on holiday I am on a budget, I enjoy S.C so i`m not tied to hotels, but I don`t have a money tree. I understand where he`s coming from but like all ministers, misguided. how many times have politicians said `Prices dont rise at school holidays` B******t
sorry rant over

Having sampled both 5star AI and sc in various places I can say that both have their merits This discussion could rage for ever as people have there own opinions, I think a balance is required each to his own and the minister should realise this. A good holiday destination caters for all types of holidaymaker as Icmeler does, it would be a sad world if we were all the same I will quite happily sit and drink with both the prince and the pauper so roll on May and let it be put to the test

Our first trip to Turkey was AI in Kusadasi.

We paid a lot for that holiday and were largely underwhelmed

After much thought and persuasion we decided to give Icmeler a go and we are so glad we did.

We also go to Cabo Roig in Spain (Thanks to my sister having a house there). We enjoy both expereinces, mainly because we can come and go as we please and do whatever takes our fancy.

Personally, the AI experience is not for me. I just feel too tied to the resort/hotel.

But I'm sure there is room for both. It's just a question of striking the right balance, I suppose.
