I was wondering how people were getting on,

Thats interesting Karenh, maybe it is october now. they do need to get the act together though it leaves us all in limbo.

There was something on the news the other week about some of those restrictions being lifted, but whether that will happen is another matter.

thank goodness for forums like these otherwise we wouldnt have a clue.

when we went through dalaman 2 weeks ago there were posters up saying the liquid restrictions were coming into force on the 1st august but they have obviously changed their mind again
well to be honest its a good thing cause the longer they decide to hold it off the longer we are allowed to take food and drink into dalaman without paying those awful prices

With the limit being set at 15kg for hold luggage the allowance given for hand luggage has to be fully used I therefore put my Tee Shirts - Shorts - Underwear and other items that it does not realy matter if they get a little creased in the hand luggage.

What a good idea (On both counts)

On the way back this July, I had three jars of honey in my hand luggage. Thinking about it, I guess that would have to go in hold luggage in future.
What a mess if that leaked :P

Hi Sheepy you must have a sweet tooth, 3 jars of honey! Just thought I would mention that honey is actually a restricted item coming back into this country, a friend of mine at work had her's taken off her it's something to do with possible problems caused to our native bee's from the pollen. I noticed the advice notice at newcastle airport for the first time this year, it's probably been there all the time and I was just more aware because of what had hapened to my friend.

We must have been lucky then - because we brought honey back for my father-in-law in June, and didn't see any notices about. It's a pity, because you can buy some lovely nuts with all kinds of nuts in it.
Anyway, had a quick look and found this from the direct gov website, which tells you what you can and can't bring back with you. Might help stop others falling foul of the regulations:

Hi John

I would think that the check would be after passport control and after you have checked in your hold baggage
This may be why they are putting back the date as they would have to do alterations to install further x-ray machines behind passport control

do you think they'll remove the x-raying of everything at the doors as you go in then and do it after check in like everywhere else.

Must be the only place where things are x-rayed twice or more.

Hi Madmackem

Thanks for the heads up on the honey restriction. I guess I do have a sweet tooth for the stuff, but it's also something a bit special to bring back. Every honey tastes different - it's the flowers the bees collect from, the local water, the scents of the mountains etc (Grief, I could write marketing for the stuff).
There's a guy in the market sells his dad's produce, he can show you pics of the hives, and it's really reasonable. Just had to buy some thyme, pine and lavender (The latter is really special - go find him and ask if you can have a taste).

Well I certainly wouldn't want to harm the native bees, I'm pretty fond of bees (Yes, I'm weird). I had a search on the DEFRA website though, and from Turkey, we can all bring back 2kg of the stuff each.
So it says anyway, your friend might have been unlucky due to an overzealous customs officer, who knows.

I bring honey back every time we go, in fact we get it as a gift from our Turkish friends and its one of those big tins with the stopper in it. Have never been questioned about it either at Dalaman or in UK, so until anything is said then I'll continue to bring it, I would hate to have to refuse it as I think our friends would take that as an insult.

Hi Dotty

if its packed in your hold luggage then there is no problem its only hand luggage that they are restricting the items you would just need to make sure it is well protected :D

I can see it never being enforced if it's been moved back from April to August and now August to October.

Hi, Just arrived home, no problems with liquids, walked through with bottle of water, nobody said anything, Noticed a poster stuck on a pole that it was coming into force from 1st October. (looked like it was a sticker stuck over another date)

Hi Steve (swc24) The system of having to go through 2 x-ray machines is in operation when retuning from Goa.At the first machine on entering the airport all hold luggage is x-rayed and a band is wrapped around the case sealing it and this can not the be opened. You then deposit them in the usual manner at check in and proceede with your hand luggage through the second x-ray at which point all liquids have to be left behind before going into departures.

Absolutely no problems with our water bottles, one hanging out of my pocket and two in open view on top of my shoulder bag. What I can't get my head round is having to remove all my coins, wallet, rings, chains and belt to pass through security yet the Mrs was ushered through without removing anything. From what I saw, it was only men who had to do the strip.
