i think alot of folk thats never been to turkey before will choose AI and alot of folk i know that has been AI not only in turkey didnt like there hoilday
so dont go back
you know the type that want to sit in the bar all day , want brittish meals and brittish drinks
i went ai once to spain only because it was very very cheap and my first holiday abroad
we just just used the hotel as a base, hired a car got out and about eat out a few times went to the beach
came back too see the other guests moaning about hotel food and drinks my idea of a holiday it to relax but also get out and aboutsome folk would be better of switching there heating up and staying at home with a carry out

ah feefee,

i dont think thats fair really, some people do AI as they have a better knowledge of what they are spending, they may have children and it better to go AI....they may want full time day entertainment for the kids, so use AI...

there are lots of reason, i think your point is a little unfair.

i do believe that AI is ruining lots of small local places, but its up to the councils to stop it, or reduce, and the big companys to stop building them.

yes AI great for kids all i was trying to point out is alot , just want to stay hotel
i watched sunbeds for a couple they went back to hotel for lunch to be fed chiken she told me its always chicken i dont really like chicken, but if you have spent most of your budget in hotel i can see the point but . i couldnt eat a meal let alone go back to a hotel knowing its a lunch i dont like
i highley reccomend AI for familys but it dont give the shops and bar any revenue
i be glad to see icmeler having a busy season as I think the last few year they have struggled

Birdy wrote:It appears that 2009 is going to be a bumper year as regards Brits going to Turkey .Mainly due to the Euro v £. I have spent quite some time in various travel agents in last couple of weeks trying to book some holidays Icmeler (august) being one of them and there is much talk of people shying away from the eurozone and opting mainly for Turkey with bulgaria and Egypt as runners up. That said it worries me slightly because i think a cram packed Icmeler wouldnt be quite the same ,obviously i would like to see good numbers for the sake of the icmeler traders and hoteliers and also to provide some atmosphere but to be packed out would i think spoil some of what attracts most of us on here the relative peace and tranquility. Any thoughts ?

I really dont understand economics, surely if the £ is weak, then it is weak no matter whether it's against the Euro or anything else??
Icmeler's always seemed busy to us in August and like Admin says, if the rooms are full, they are full

Maybe I'm missing something, but if folk head to Turkey thinking they'll have a really cheap holiday, they are likely to be mistaken. Yes it's gone up and is still reasonable, but bargain bucket it's not
AI is of course an option to at least think that you've paid for everything before you go, but then you'd miss out on sooooooo much by staying around the hotel to get your money's worth - as we all know Icmeler's much more than that

Fanny ,Icmeler is definitely a bargain location have you seen some of the prices in other holiday spots ,i am a minibus driver and as such take hundreds of people to north west airports and because of this i do get rather a large amount of general info regarding various holiday destinations.Even before the latest round of credit crunch problems the likes of Greece and especially southern Cyprus prices had risen quite sharply for food and drink + the usual holiday expenditure things too numerous to list but excursions for one .and in the last six months tourists come back actually shocked (and skint) at the increased costs .Icmeler last august we as a group went to several bars and paid only £1 for a pint of effes and approx £10 for a high quality evening meal (steak etc) now try that in most other holiday spots added to that the bargain priced accomodation and then wonder why Turkey is gaining fast in popularity.

Whatever the prices are this year, come on lets enjoy, and hope for all our Turkish friends sake that it will be a bumper year for them, they deserve it as business has really been quiet for them for a few years now. Let them have a bite of the cherry!

Oh Helen, we certainly WILL make sure we have a ball while we're there  8)

Birdy - all I meant was that overall, Turkey's not the rock bottom priced bargain hol that newbies may expect
I really do think that if folk who've never been before are expecting it to be very cheap when they get there, they could be disappointed

It's certainly value for money for sure, and the boat trip prices are unbelievable for a whole day and lunch included

I usually go away for a mega cheap break with my friends once a year, but can never find anything Turkeywise - we always find that it's the price of flights and transfer that put it that wee bit out of reach
so we usually end up in the Canaries or Spain - though this April it will be a week 5* AI in Eygpt for a change

Egypt is very good i'm off there in 3 weeks Hurghada - went to Sharm last Jan . Egypt is superb at this time of year because you are almost certain to be the opposite of here (freezing) Service is good in egypt and everybody should go once in their life .Downside is that you will get sick of being mithered by traders to buy from them and i mean mithered to the extreme.I am smitten with Turkey now but at this time of year not warm enough.

Thanks for that Birdy, mind you we don't plan on moving from the complex so hopefully we won't be hassled at all
Like you, Turkey's not warm enough for our bit of winter sun, hence our ventures to other climes ha ha
There's no way we'd dream of going anywhere other than Icmeler for our family hol though - the kids wouldn't forgive me
