Do you mean this post FBC?

Yes it has - and in some parts for the worse.
We first came to Icmeler in 1995 and found paradise, it was quiet with a few large hotels but still Turkish enough.
Over the past 13 years we have watched parts slowly turn into the costas Turkish style.
The question is what do you go to Icmeler for? Is it fish and chips, english breakfast, sunday roast,to get p****d every night, curry on fridays, disco til dawn? Or is it to sample the delights offered by the Turkish way of life?We have travelled around Turkey and have seen the nice parts then come through Marmaris (blackpool abroad) and hope that Icmeler does not turn out the same way. It is going that way in some parts - it is only a matter of time until fatdonalds or bulge-erking arrives, when they do we will not go back.
If people want to drink all day party all night go to Marmaris and leave Icmeler the way it 'was'.
I will get off my soap box now.

It was on the other thread?

we have been enjoying icmeler since 1996.and yes it has changed.a little more expensive, a little quieter, a little less friendly,a little less picturesque, but only a little.there is still genuine warmth in the greeting genuine pride in the running of the hotels and bars.and if you can beat the chill factor of an ice cold efes at the cafe del mar you will have done well.

The friends we have in Turkey told us that the bars and restaurants are quieter because lots more hotels are offering AI stays now.
It's a shame because the bar environment is unbeatable to that of a hotel bar.
It seems to have gotten a bit more expensive this year also, but you can't blame them for trying!!

The one thing which I never appreciate is that buy one get one free out there is not BOGOF!! If a drink was 8ytl for one, it increases to 10ytl for 2 on happy hour lol! Makes me laugh, but it's cheeky all the same!

I dont think we have been ripped off, then again i never keep count of what we drink anyway so if the bill looks reasonable to me then i pay it,obviously i would make an issue if there was blatant overcharging, but in modst restaurants i never look at the price anyway just at what takes my eye

We're just back. will do a review when brain working. But have to say its changed since last year.

Lots more bright neon lights, so can see the resemblance to british seaside resorts. Yes some is getting tacky.

Wonderboys, Oscars and the Elvis bar always seemed to be busy. And do encourage the podium dancing type of thing and seem to have the same crowd every night.

Prices are expensive, usual meal 18 lira, if you wanted steak it averaged 26 lira, we couldnt afford starters or deserts.

6 of us it averaged 150 lira a night, that was the meal and one drink each, mainly shandy, fizzy drinks and small bottle of water. The kids often had kids meals even the 16 year olds, as they couldnt eat the adult sized portions and sometime just fancied chips. so we economised that way. Settled the meal bill, so it gave us an idea of what we had spent then would run up another drinks bill of about 60 lira.

I would strongly recommend people go to the takeaways. We went to the one opposite the 2 sisters and that came to 50 lira for 6 of us with soft drinks. And it was actually the nicest kebab/meal we had. it was cheap at half the price. Next year we're going to alternate more and eat more at the takeaways.

Exhange rate was terrible, 2.15 down to 2.11 when we left.

We've booked already for next year, but hope the exchange rate improves. Would have loved to book for 3 weeks, but thats not feasible when you put your sensible head on.

I'd still rather be back there than home though. This has turned into a sort of review, wasn't intended that way lol.

I would also love to go for 3 weeks next year, but having come back last Thursday I couldnt afford to. I could afford the holiday but the spends would cripple me. It wasn't has cheap as I thought but then again it's a damm site cheaper than here and I was eating amazingly good food. We were spending around 120 quid a day self catering and we didn't scrimp and I do like a drink, very much so. That was 2 adulkts and 2 kids aged 10 and 12. The soft drinks seem to be the problem as whereever you go they are the same price as booze, I think thats where the bill rises. All the time we ate our meal then paid the tab then started another for drinks as you can easily forget what you've had

Yes Adewolves, its the spends that would have done us in as well, plus putting a dog in kennels for a further week.

We'll be putting £2 and £1 coins away now to see how much we can save up for next year.

I certainly havent bought the weather back with me, but at least I've stopped sweating all the time.

Am sure it was the hotest I remember it being in August over there.

Definitely hotter than last August. We always have the same fortnight and usually do quite a bit of walking but it was far too hot. Enjoyed cooling down in the pool instead.

Would not change it though. Rather be there than here expecially as I am looking out of the window and there is fine wet drizzle!!!
