If it is the Council that are telling bar owners to put prices up, then they will suffer in the long run. Tukey and Icmeler already seem to be quiet, if people don't see it as a cheap holiday then unfortuanately that will reflect in tourist figures.

Fuel prices in Turkey are FAR higher than the UK, the price of flour, rice and I think sugar have gone up in price world wide so everything goes up everywhere.

There are of course greedy people who will bang the prices up when and if they can and still don't realise that in the long run it will not work.

I know cooking oil is just about the same price as diesel as I was going to run it in my vehicle so everything adds up and all going crazy in price.

Our accommodations have not gone up in price as we have not had a price rise from the owners as we sign contracts for 3 years at a time so prices stay constant and we have even put a few prices down as these discounts are given to us.

Flight prices we can't do anything with except find you the best flight out there and we ALL pay the same for flights.

as for resort prices well I have not seen them since mid May but I have had no reports of price hikes from the girls in the office so looks ok there.

In mid May there was a big procession of bar owners to get everyone to sign a petition for the council to make a law that everyone makes the prices of drinks the same in every bar and I know for a fact that not everyone wanted to sign this.

I suppose the people who will lose out in the long run is the bar owners as years ago a self catering holiday to a British person really meant a self catering holiday and they cooked all their meals in and had drinks on their balcony in the evening before venturing out for just maybe a quick drink or two.

I don't think British people will desert Turkey, Spain, Greece or anywhere else in fact as high prices are everywhere but we may see a reversion to the old type family holiday where they stayed around the pool all day and just enjoyed the sun and their wown company

John I DEFINITELY would not give you a job as I have 10th July 2008 2 people 14 nights from Stanstead £398 then different flight company 13th July 2009 2 people 14 nights £326 so doesn't take a mathematician to work out that if you book the 2009 flight now you get it £72 cheaper total booking cost if you book early


P.S I could probably get it cheaper than that too but that is just the first I found

Thats right - prices are going up everywhere. The reason for the original post was really the scale of increases as it looks like prices are going to be 20% to 30% higher this year in resort than last year. This is much higher than anywhere else (Zimbabwe apart!!) and way above the reported inflation of 10%.

I'll be there in a few weeks but was wondering if the above figures are really representative in say resturants (thats where I spend most of my money). I think it would be good if people had an idea of this as we go into the main holiday period as some people work to budgets and take over what they think they need (which would probably be based on previous visits).

Oh geeesh, are these hikes in prices as much as that, I guess we'll soon find out from the loyal Icmerlites coming back from their annual pilgrimage. As far as booking early for next year, I havn't even been on this holiday this year yet and am still saving up for it, as well as keeping up with the inflated prices over here. I could bite the bullet and probably buy a couple of cheap seats for next year, but the way it's going at the moment I'm going to have to see for myself how it is out there (we go in August) and take it from there. Unfortunately I've still got a mortgage round my neck and my home is more important than my holiday. Every boby needs a break so long as it doesn't break the bank.

unfortunately the credit crunch is now kicking in with a vengeance .we have stopped going to Spain because the prices are not value for money any more.i hope to god Turkey doesn't go the same way.

Bulgaria will be using euros next year so we all know what is going to happen there.

India you have to book a good while in advance for a visa so no last minute hols there and from what I have heard prices are rising there which of course they will as every country in the world all use the same comodities.

If we stay in the UK to holiday it is a gamble on the weather and Butlins and the like were ok when all our kids were small but the last time I went there in I think 2001 the price of a pint was nearly £3.00 then so where next

An article in one of the sunday newspapers today says that turkey has become a hotspot for 2008,because being outside the euro zone,it is now officially one of the cheapest countries to holiday in.
It gives you a list of countries in europe and items like
coffee,beer,meal for two,suncream,newspaper,soft drink to compare prices...and hey turkey came out the cheapest.

Politics confuse me! But as a few people have already said, I would rather be spending my well earned cash on meals of a far more superior quality for similar price as our branded pub grub samey restuarants across our country, in a far more idyllic place than here,
I was there in May and was paying same prices as last year, 20 to 23 lira for fillet steak, with fresh veg and sauces, and charming service.6 Lira for a vodka and coke, and more vodka in it if you said you couldn't taste it, Still great value. That wouldn't happen here.
The euro rate has made our decision of where to go in july and September and guess where that is? Lets not tell everyone though, they might pinch all our places in the hotels!

It doesn't really matter much what you book it is only a matter of time before inflation starts to increase and then you have the danger of a financial crash,people I talk to have already said we cannot let this go on and something will happen very shortly,as the government is reluctant to act.
