Ahh the good old days.

As Gene said, I remeber the Pop In when it was tucked right out of the way down next to Metropol Sportswear and Claire used to sit on a chair out the front. Buffalo Karaoke was where the Alisa apartments are now. The round-a-bout in the sqaure was there one year gone the next and back the one after that.
As someone else mentioned Eastenders before it was Eastenders was Buffalo and before that it was Abone discotheque.
The road down by the Elif hotel that leads to the beach used to be nothing more than a dirt track.....

Oh how times have changed...

I can remember the old Pop Inn before it was owned by Claire & Ali. Our friends Kami & Ferri used to own it ,many a good night we had there. The food was excellent when owned by both couples.
For those of you who can go back further than that Kami & Ferri & their relatives Farah & Orhan used to have Casko's,it used to be just along the road from the Florida which is now managed by Jack who we used to know by the name of Turon, he used to work for them at Casko's.
Can anyone remeber when they used to resurface the roads, the tar was spread anyhow and then the stones thrown on top and a quick go over with a roller and all done, and everyone ended up with tar & stones stuck to the soles of their shoes
Those were the days

DAVIDS BAR

Postby marks » 14 Oct 2005 08:25

redrhino12 wrote:Anyone remember Davids Bar,next to Fortuna Hotel.
Its demolished now along with a couple of more bars and a corner shop.
We used to spend every night here when we first started visiting Icmeler, this was in the days when I didnt like Efes and used to drink brandy and lemonade.
David was married to a German girl and when they demolished his bar about 4 years ago he went to live in Germany.

Gene

We remeber Davis Bar well, we were told this year that he had moved to Germany and married his German Girlfriend. We we also told that they had since split up, maybe a rumour. I hope so...

Can anybody remember the old man who used to cycle around the bars at night to dance?. The locals called him dance man. Unfortunately he died a couple of years ago.

Yeah - I'm sure all us ladies will remember him - he love to dance - and be quite close up- The viagra had certainly kicked in. He also was seen watering flowers around Icmeler. We saw him for many years and always aknowledged him. Hope I am still able to dance like him when I am the age he was.

gene,
i remember the pop in. you got a lovely breakfast there. also we used to go to a bar which was next to fruit shop near babadan appartments and it was ran by 'bill' and his wife. they were a lovely couple who always welcomed you warmly. when we went last year bill was stood at the front of the black sea restaurant trying to get customers in. i felt sorry for him because he had such big plans for his little restaurant and he was now working for someone else.the turkish people work so hard and are always cheerful and remember you from year to year even though they must see loads of people they still remember your name!

have been going to icmeler for 13/14 years, started in the aqua,2 years, but it didnt take long to realise all you need is good clean apt or hotel,i can honestly say we go back to a lot of our usual restaurants, but we still find new ones every year, most of the friends we have made over the years, move from one bar to another, kemel(i will kill you)who was in the chefs now has his own restaurant called the lemon tree, just up from the florida, give it a try, what i am saying is,sure things are changing, but in my opinion, for the best,by the way,i will be in icmeler, may(been) july,august,sept,2 weeks on each occasion, maybe oct,all the places spoken about above are correct, but credit is due to icmeler council, for improving,a great holiday venue.(my grandson is gutted about the small aqua park closing, great fun very cheap too,my only gripe.)

Another one is the Rally Hotel on the square opposite Harrys Steakhouse now altered and changed into the Iguana Apartments.

Remember it well Gene...stayed there in 1997! Also the photo in the following years brochure was of "her indoors" in the pool.

Does anyone remember the old Turkish pizza place where Tansas now stands?
