We have just returned today as well (from Marmaris). There were quite a few places being ordered to close due to hassle. I was told it was initially for three days and repeat offenders would be closed indefinitely. The hassle was nowhere near as bad as on previous visits and was not that bad on visits to Icmeler either, so it looks like it's being clamped down on there too.

Hi,
I would just like to add to Lucy's endorcement of the Metropol clothes shop.
The owners there make a point of allowing you to browse at your leisure. But, when you need help, will do their best for you.
We always shop there and, although the prices are higher than others, the quality is very high.
In May my wife wanted some three quarter length jeans and, although they didn't have any, she chose a normal pair and within 15 minutes they had been altered at no extra cost.
We will be back there in August.
For cheaper clothes with the same laid back, helpful attitude could I recommend my friend Abik's uncle's shop. It's next to Cafe Selim (on the same side) near the Dream 3 Bells. If you ask Abik in the Dream he will direct you,

Tim

i have just returned and the police ave become really strict about this in icmeler. Dont know about marmaris as i avoided that this year because of the hassle! Not naming any restaurants but some of them hassle like mad and dont get caught. One of my friends who works on the door of a restaurant knew the person he was shaking the hand of and she stepped in while holding her hand and under cover cops got him and said he dragged her in! Both owners had to go down to the police station and got fined! Im not sayin which restaurant it is because im most certainly not going to give them a bad name as they were not hassling anyone. It really irritates me that other restaurants dont get done for this when they clearly do it all the time, like they did to us while we were there but then one of my friends gets hit!!! How Annoying!!!!!!!!

Julie,
If you walk from the ICROffice/Chill Bar past the Cash Machines & Grand Saral Hotel towards the main Tansas road, the Metropol clothes shop is on your right.

i definately agree with that when you go to look in clothes shops loads of people come huddling around you when you even so much as pull a top of the rack and it makes me not want to go and look in because they always want you to buy something. i love buying bags and one shop in perticular i call him the bag man his shop is on the main tansas road and its jus down a bit until that small turkish delight shop i never get any hassle out of there and he is always so nice about helping you pick a bag and he sometimes gives me a free bag if i cannot choose-best shop xxxx

Just been talking to Hamish on msn and he has told me that Dreamboys was closed for 3 days due to hassling and that Majestic on canal is now closed for 3 days for the same reason so it sounds like they are really clamping down with the hassle situation.

Hiya
Got back on Wednesday morning and was talking to the dreamboys staff about the hassling and that as i didnt know they arent allowed to come out onto the pavement so to speak. They were like hiding behind a line.
Even when we were going one night-i didnt say bye to some people and they were shouting me back as they couldnt cross to come and say bye.

Down the canal shops is very quiet sort of eerie...felt very strange walking down there.
I dont think the hassling in Icmeler is bad at all, they all will stop if you say no or watever!
But agree with you all that guy outside Baron is the worst-we walk on the opposite side of the road purely to avoid him...even then he shouts across!

YES :D Result

This place is notorious for hassling and really got my goat last year.

Well done to Icmeler for taking a stand on this :D

Lol at Colette I was thinking the same when I read about Dreamboys. The Majestic have never hassled us but then we go there willingly about 3 times in 2 weeks so I suppose that's why they leave us alone  I'm glad something's being done about it though.

Yeah I guess the result here is something is actually being done :D

Some one in Icmeler is really updating the place, is it the council? Sorry for my ignorance

Everyone is talking about the guy at the Baron hassling, can you tell me where this restaraunt is, just wondering if it is the same one we had problems with last year on the same road as the waterfall, just after the bend on the left as you walk down towards the beach, the waterfall is roughly opposite.

This clampdown is a good thing in some respects but if people who you have known for years can't greet you outside the line I think it's a shame
That is what makes Icmeler such a warm and welcoming place, so different from anywhere else.
The hassle has never bothered me, even in Marmaris last year it was hardly a problem and was a lot better.
Icmeler council are trying hard to be like other European resorts, but thats exactly why I return year after year because it is not! I will truly consider not going again if it becomes cold and impersonal like Europe and that will be very sad
Pleeeese, Icmeler don't change too much :(

To be greeted is nice, the personal touch is there but hassle I reckon is overdoing it, admittedly most hassle is friendly and after a few days a lot of them recognise you and smile sweetly asking you to come in..
Personally I think the hasslers should be turned into greeters and greet us if we choose to go in :D

They definitley are being over zealous admin! We have friends in Majestic boys who we have known for many years and now I'm going to be scared to speak to them in case it causes trouble for them!
Do the council not ask for holiday makers views on this, because as I said before, I have never been upset or angry over hassle because it has always been done in a polite way during the last ten years that I have been going to Icmeler. I may have been lucky but that is the truth.
