I have to admit, when booking a holiday with friends in June 2007, Turkey wasn't my first choice .... actually it wasn't even on my list! It was somewhere I'd never really liked the look of or wanted to visit.

Needless to say, after one visit I was hooked, went back again that September and have been going twice a year ever since! Have stayed in Hisaronu/Fethiye but nothing matches Icmeler in my opinion.

Next visit to Icmeler in 43 sleeps time (not that I'm counting!)

1994 was my very first visit to Icmeler. Loved it straightaway but was still single and wanted to see more of Turkey so did Kusadassi a couple of years and back to Greek islands for another couple of hols. Met my wife in 1998 , who i might add was a spanish hol lover. I suggested Icmeler in 1999 and off we went , she is now a fully fledged member of the Icmeler Lovers Society and we have been back every year since. Roll on September 15th.Happy days

Good morning Sunny. I would like to add a footnote to my original post re discovering Icmeler...we have also made some amazing new Scottish friends whilst there, even though they did wonder if we were axe murderers or not   Shame that you aren't going out the same time as us again this year. We will miss you xo

G'morning Star - yep, we'll be sorry to miss you this year BUT maybe next year?
I have a feeling that no matter where we go, Icmeler is a 'return' holiday. Whats not to love?
Some friends of ours are also coming out this year for the second week - I wonder if they will converts too?
Probably!

That reprobate Jim Scunny is out there same time-ish as us this year - we'll probably see him propping the bar at the Eden at some point.

Funny but nice how this forum brings folks together? :D

First time was 1993. I'd been to Greece & Spain loads of time with family or lad's holidays over the years. I'd been going out with my girlfriend, now wife, for a couple of years & we had been to Gran Canary & Cyprus. We booked Icmeler just by luck, staying in the Babadan Hotel and had a great time. Since then we have returned about 16 times, but have also been to other places, but keep on coming back. In fact we don't bother looking for anywhere else. I'd say we preferred Icmeler when the bars stayed open later, I'm not a 'boom boom' bar lover, but I wish the bars could carry on to at least 1:00 am, that’s just my choice. I also think the All Inclusive hotels are changing the resort not for the better and every year the place is getting quieter

It was 2001 and our sons were now 10 and 12 so we decided to fly further afield. I wanted to go to the Greek Isles, but hubby insisted on Turkey. We deal was it has to be a 5 star hotel as I had a pre formed view that it would be dirty etc.,

OMG how wrong was I!!!

We stayed at the Mares, situated between Marmaris and Icmeler. Lovely hotel and we were half board. But we still like to explore so one night got the dolumus to Icmeler. We had a walk along the canal and the boys were mesmerised by one particular bar "THE MAJESTIC". People and staff were dancing on the bar and the guys were lighting fly spray, to produce massive flames (not very health and safety conscious). We went in for a drink and that was it. Over the years, our sons have worked behind the bar, DJ'd and even danced the Klinka and the Full Monty, on occasion with the guys on the bar.

All together we have been about 18 times now, we travel all over the world but return every year because it feels like home. In the last 7 months we have travelled to St Lucia, Florida and Tenerife, but Turkey is my chill out holiday. People are great, geniune and friendly and we have made so many Turkish and Kurdish friends over the years.

Our eldest is taking his girlfriend on holiday next month and guess where they are going? She had the same idea that it would be dirty etc., and was amazed when I showed her photos.

Just about to book for next May but in the meantime, hello to all my turkish friends, Jan/Emra/Ali/Tony etc., at the Majestic, Speedy/Tiger/Tolga/Adam etc., at Sports Bar, The lovely Serden, his wife Elena and little Deniz, Ozzie at Cheeky Boys/ Omar Sherif at Bonjour/ Janeet at The Gold Shop / My rep mate, Angie and anyone else who knows us!!!

we had been visting kusadasi since 1990 when we had enough of all the hassel with the shop keepers, so we decided to visit marmaris in 1997,afraid to say we didnt like that at all.

we decided to give turgertries a go, that was lovely and booked to go back the next year, but the company we were going with cancelled our holiday, saying that there was not enough peaple going, and they would find us somewhere else in turkey, we had heard icmeler was nice and asked them if we could go there.

they booked us into the hotel varol (lets say no more about that place) only good thing to say about it was that we met a lovely couple from doncaster.(we are from kent) and we have remained best of freinds ever since, anyway
our love affair with icmeler began, apart from having a break and staying in turunc for the last five years, we returned to icmeler this june.
and will continue to do so.
