a few times in icmeler, i have sent drink back to the bar because you cant taste anything but the mixer, one time i sent it back 3 times , then gave up. so if you cant get a hint off anything but coke or seven up your knackerd.

yeah sometimes true they do water down their spirits sometimes as alcohol is expensive to buy in turkey due to high import tariffs

My advice is to stay clear of vodka unless You bring it out with you. And do not drink draught beer , take it from me we had two lads who were lucky to be alive after methanol poisoning in icmeler , it has no smell so beware . It's such a shame cos it's a lovely resort and some nice people there we had 7 years there but no more, life's too precious

Re: Fake alcohol

Lifes too short not to go to Icmeler Brightspark but to blame all bars just isn't fair. I've never had a problem in the bars I frequent and believe me I go to a few. Its not fair to blame a whole resort for something that happened to your lad. In saying that please don't think I have no sympathy for him and I do hope he's ok now

Re: Fake alcohol

I can safely say without being called a liar that I personally drink more vodka in Icmeler than anyone else and have yet to be given intentionally or accidentaly a home made concoction

Sure I have had different Turkish brands given to me in different bars in one night and after having a few of the same at the first bar then anything tastes funny so I always find out what the name of the first one is and try my best to stay at that

I have also had some nights where I have had only a couple of drinks and felt like falling over but would say that was down to how I was at the time and not what I had been drinking

Egypt is another place for weird tasting vidka as it is locally produced but I can't stand the taste of any of them there so always take my own

I have not seen or heard of personally anyone being "poisoned" with fake vodka but have seen an too many occassions to count, young kids who have drunk too much alcohol that they shouldn't have and are literally licking the floor as they lay in the gutter or hang off a seat in a bar and my eldest lad included

I have been reading the first night topic with interest as I have yet to see alcohol like that mentioned but I have also seen so many people getting so drunk on their first night because they have been awake the night before and after that long journey it seems to happen to a lot (which is not a bad thing in moderation  )

We cannot go naming shaming or scaremongering anything unless there is proof that a bar or person actually did this and I mean proper proof not what you think or heard as people visit many places and could be anywhere and even if there was proof of something like that it will not be discussed on this forum.

The topic of fake vodka has well been discussed and is not open to discussion on here as it has already been dealt with

I quite agree with JT, ive drunk vodka in Icmeler for 7 years now,(well every night for two weeks in each of those 7 years),and never had a problem, and never heard of one in any of the bars we go in. Rog.

stay clear of real vodka you would soon know if was fake as tastes of water,I take duty free better safe than sorry.
turkish vodka only about 27% and rubbish.

Re: Fake alcohol

I've drank vodka in icmeler for many many years and never had a problem till last year. We were sat at a table near the roadside and I kept thinking it was petrol or paraffin I could smell but it was the vodka, they changed my drink and it was exactly the same and it scared me to be truthful. The owner was really upset and apologized. I went in the bar again but drank cider as I have always loved going to this bar :(

Skilly that is exactly what every spirit in Egypt smells like to me

I drink red wine and that is crap too or take my own vodka which is daft when staying all inclusive but its the sun I go for not the booze

Re: Fake alcohol

14 Feb 2013 20:44

Yes JT, I mostly go for the sun also, but as I said, I have never had a vodka that smelt of paraffin before . Saying that it doesn't put me off , it was a 'one of' and I still love icmeler :)

I think the council use parafin or derv in the mozzie spray at night, you werent sitting out side at the time were you Skilly, lol.

Re: Fake alcohol

Please beware that fake alcohol could be being served at Bar X and No Name Bar, we had two separate couples who have returned to our apartments over the last week who looked paraletic yet both said they had only had a couple. Both these bars do "two for one offers" - the owner of our apartments suspects the same stating they could only make money on this is alcohol was legit by giving tiny measures. Please take care having just spoken to one of the couples the guy said he was fine then just went dizzy in space of one drink !!!

Re: Fake alcohol

12 Jun 2013 08:06

I was with Skilly that night she got the vodka and it stunk, the owner did appologise but he had rented the bar out to some other people,it is one of our favourite bars we go in and we have known the owner years, there where two other couples that night who complained and they got up and just walked out saying they will never go there again, the owner then came over to us and he was crying saying how sorry he was,he then walked behind the bar with the bloke who he rented the bar to,he got the bottles of Vodka and poured them down the sink, next minute one of the young waiters went out went to a shop and brought back some bottles of Vodka which was alright.

Re: Fake alcohol

14 Jun 2013 14:15

Have to add a comment to this as I have been going to Icmeler twice a year for 7 years and am only a vodka drinker. I have never had a problem from any of the bars and have to say that we are regulars to No name bar and more recently Bar X and can assure people their vodka is fine. We go there as they give good strong measures and that is why people start feeling drunk, we know them all and as they say, they give strong measures because that is what everyone asks for. Icmeler is only small and the bars all know that words spread quickly and any bad publicity can drastically affect them so I don't think they would take the risk. I think, unless there are any hard facts, people should stop worrying and enjoy their holidays :D

Re: Fake alcohol

Im surprised as the Russian's never spend money in bars as they all go all inclusive

Re: Fake alcohol

28 Jun 2013 17:28

If you've ever been unlucky enough to be served fake alcohol, I can assure you, it is very very different from being drunk. Both my fiancé and I have - where is irrelevant to this discussion I think, but absolutely and without doubt, there IS fake vodka in Icmeler. The effects of drinking it are very unpleasant, and whilst I respect peoples opinion thinking that others have just got entirely legless without thinking about it, having been served this, and having drunk this unwittingly, it's really not very nice at all.
