Re: Urgh! Mossies! Take something with you!

Both of my daughters and I have to be careful because we are mozzie magnets. I think my daughters must be allergic as well, as when they have a bite, it is the size of a 50p piece (no exaggeration!!) and looks inflamed.

They have to use their repellent before going out and then once more while out and if its a late night they'll have to spray a third time. Even the jungle strength only lasts for about three hours. We find that the repellent spray we buy in Icmeler gives more protection so always buy it whilst we're there and buy an extra one to bring home ready for the next time.

The local lemon cologne helps a little if we're bitten but what we've found that helps is Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. It's the only thing that we've found that does a good job at reducing the itch. We normally buy it in Duty Free on the way out but this year we've already bought it on ebay, which was cheaper than Duty Free. It can be used for a number of other uses as well so is a handy item to take with you.

As we've always had this problem even in Icmeler I really hope that the council have it under control soon. As for the ants we were told in the past to keep areas dry, eg to dry the areas around the sink as the moisture attracts the ants. Don't know if this is the reason why but we haven't had a problem with ants since doing this.

hi all,
Quick question re, Avon skin so soft: Is it the white bottle - original or the blue/green bottle there are 2 different shade bottles both dry sprays and would like to buy the right one.

also looks like the blue bottle is now a slightly different shape on the a~~n site as apposed to the pictures on amazon and ebay etc.

will try anything if it helps

thanks in advance

As I suffer from hayfever and related allergies I take anti histamine tablets all year round. In 25 years of holidays abroad I have never suffered from mosquito or insect bites. in saying this I assume that I am probably being bitten but its just that the anti histamine effect prevents any swelling or itchiness. The tablets that I take are Piriton. Maybe this will be of help to someone.

Right, as I react so badly to mozzie bites, I have decided to adopt an all-out attack approach this time round. With two weeks to go, I am heading to the chemist today to stock up on vitamin B, garlic and anti-histamine tablets - already got my stocks of Avon SSS in readiness. No doubt I will still get bitten and have to go to the pharmacy (he takes one look at me now and automatically knows I need antibiotics for the bites!), but hopefully it won't be as bad!

Hi

My brother and I are just back from Icmeler. Never saw one mosquito. The Council van sprays all the main streets at around 6.15 a.m. and also they spray down the drains. It must depend on where you stay.

I use 2 things out there, worked last week but I got bit on my first evening when I forgot to put anything on:

1. Cheap and cheerful 'Once' from Tansas. 5 lira in pump spray and this works wonders. Smell goes in minutes, so everyone doesn't avoid you.
2. Drink plenty of alcohol as they don't bite you then!

My bottle was two years old last year and still worked wonders for me, my wife and girls just use a normal repellent, it was me who was always attacked but not since using SSS. That reminds me I think I need a new bottle for this year.

We use Mosquito Milk which can be bought from Chemist Direct. You don't need to cover all areas, just a swipe on each arm, leg etc and you are protected, and it actually smells nice. A bottle of this lasted myself and my friend for 3 weeks (and still had some left!!).

As Piriton is a brand name it is more expensive. You can buy the generic ones much cheaper. The non-drowsy versions are known as Loratidine and Cetrizine Hydrochloride. You can get them at Asda, Tesco and also Wilkinsons sell them under their own Wilko brand. Just check the list of ingredients on the box. They cost approx 70p for 7 tablets and £2-£3 for thirty and you take one a day.
