I have been going to Turkey and Icmeler many years,I have seen and heard more than most people posting on this forum.
When you visit a place so often you are bound to experience things off the tourist track but I dont see the sense in reporting things most people will never see.
If I want to wallow in the seedier side of Turkey I would buy a "Take A Break" but this wouldnt give me a true impression of what Icmeler is all about.
As for respect I think you reap what you sow and you dont have to be old or mature to gain respect as lots of young people have the respect of the Turkish and Kurdish people its just how we project ourselves to them.

In my mind I can walk down the side of the canal and over the bridges,
all the bridges are lit up with their twinkling lights, looking like something out of a fairytale.
The stall holders are busy selling their wares after frantic bargaining with eager tourists.
I can peer into the Venice, Majestic and Dreamboys people are having so much fun singing and dancing on the bars.

I stroll along the promenade, its so hot today maybe go for a swim later in the sea, but for the moment I think I will call into the Erdem and have an icecream and watch the people walk by.

I have had my shower, changed into my best bib and tucker and am now ready to hit the town.
Maybe dinner at the Loveboat and a dance at the Deniz Kapisi, maybe go and see the Stella Show at the Harmony.

or maybe z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z z

There are places i have been in icmeler that i dont like, so i dont go back to them.that dose not make them bad places . i just prefer other places ,like JT says if we are going back 2/3 times a year and a person disrespects a place on the forum they will find you out . Do what you do in this country dont go back .

AD, The mind is a wonderfull thing were we can all create a place of escapeism.
How many of you, are like me and think about Icmeler every day,and create a little fantasy were we can live our dreams.
No one can break in on our thoughts, this makes them all the more special,
we are the masters of our own little world.

I cant be on my own, I would think we all have that secret desire to "Escape" our normal lives and relive our Happy Times.

Hi, all, I missed my icmeler holiday this year, as we tried another Turkish resort, but I do think of icmeler a lot and have enjoyed reading this thread Gene.

I for one wouldn't mind going back to the way this forum was moderated in the past, if I wanted to read about doom and gloom all day i'd buy a UK newspaper. I come on here to get cheered up and read of how others enjoy their holidays.

Cheers John

From the mails we have been receiving the past few days since certain posts went up it seems you are in a long list of people John.

just wanted to add my 2p to this discusion, having been lucky enough to have been going to icmeler for about 15 years now, & we are now the proud owners of a small apartment,I must be going round with my eyes closed,we can honestly say we have not seen anything worth worrying about, saw a fight in the market, police giving a pick pocket quick justice,no as gene says this is as near to paradise as you are likely to get, having said that, you cant please all the people all of the time.

Gene, when we left last night it was in good hands, after about 12 visits ourselves i may have a bit of rose tinted glasses because we love the place, but never felt any problems and we walked home late up to the old village ,which can have a few spots where there is not many people about.
Found the shop keepers and bars and restaurants as freindly has ever and we will be back next year.

Getting back on Gene's topic - I dont think Icmeler has lost any of its magic. We have already been twice this year and we cant wait to return again 2 weeks on Monday for our final two weeks of this year.

We love it so much, we have been looking into moving over there for the last few months, but it doesnt look feasible for another 4 years - therefore, I still have the dream, just kind of snoozing until I get into that dream state where my dreams come true.

Icmeler will always hold the dream for myself and Phill.

thanks to admin and collette for their evenhandedness over the last few days but back to the good things that this post was meant to inspire
I will be returning to icmeler very soon and this is what i expect

A long flight made worthwhile at the end, by the man at the bottom of the dalaman ramp with a sign saying ICR
no stopping till we cross the ridge and see the bay below
THE HOLIDAY HAS BEGUN
cases dumped and straight out to savour the sight and scent of the various flowers
the warm breeze and the sounds of the bars

first stop zazas and a cold effes and a sh*te welcome
perhaps a wander round to decide where to eat
a meal to die for (pick any of many restuarants)
then probably a lot of spirits taken in many bars (we are gluttons for punishment)
a stagger (sorry stoll) back to our hotel to collapse until lunchtime the next day
wake up have a coffee on the balcony and watch the world go by
a few hours at the pool a stroll for lunch
then do it all over again

What a life I CANT WAIT :D :D :D

the best bit is when your on the transfer and your at the top of the hill when you can see marmaris below
you get an excited feeling in your stomach as you get closer to icmeler
once you arrive you take a deep breath and smell the icmeler air
then going to that favourite restaurant and run into the arms of your friends as they greet you like long lost family :D
amazing place
honestly love icmeler

Excellent, excellent posts from redrhino. We too have a place up in the old village and although we're back in the UK at the moment, you have just transported me back to my Turkish home and the place we all call Paradise. I'd like to thank you very much for that. You've made me late for work but the smile on my face and the thoughts running through my head make it totally worth it.

i feel safe and content there.....

when i visit, its a bit like "going home"

we always said we would never go back to the same place twice....we are now looking forward to trip number 6 or 7......

the turkish people are the nicest i have ever met whilst on holiday, i cant put my finger on what the exact charm of icmeler is, but i do know i have travelled to lots of different places, and icmeler just keeps calling us back, maybe its the sunrises, the sunsets, the boat trips, the smells, the sights, who knows, its just a special place to us..

In reply to Karens post this is another snippet from the past

Why do we keep going back to Icmeler?

Is it the feeling pf belonging?
Loving a culture different to ours?
The Magnificent scenery?
A love of the food be it Turkish or International?
The nightlife, the Karaoke, dance bars, the theme shows or a quite drink?
The trips out on the boats, jeep safari, horse riding or the watersports?
The sun,sea and sands?

I have my reasons, and can list all the above as being a part of my repeat visits, but the main reason I think is.

"I AM HOME"

Another repeat posting for karen re her Sunbed enquirery

It was the first morning of our August fortnight in Icmeler.
After a light breakfast in our apartment of coffee, toast and cereals,we packed the bags ready for our "First Day At The Beach".

Now the bags we take to the beach are Huge, having to hold 6 towels,
2 each, various grades of sun oil ranging from 2 for me to total block for Mrs Genes nose, snorkel and mask for Andre, lilo for the Rhino to play in the sea with and the obligatory reading books for Ann.
We also take two x two litre bottles of water that I have frozen in the fridge overnight, and these will keep iced all day if kept out of the sun.

Last visit to the toilet then we are on our way yours truly laiden up like an human pack horse.

We have decided to spend our first day on the stretch of beach in front of the Kontes Hotel,so having walked past the Prince Apartments on our right, sauntered passed the Efendi Hotel also on the right with the Etoil Hotel on the left, we arrived on the Promenade.

A voice shouts "Sunbed Sir", and an arm with open palm is thrust in my direction which I grasp and shake vigoriously.

"How much for the beds" I enquire.
"A £1 sir" is the reply.
"Can I have one near the waters edge " I ask.
"I have saved these just for you" he says as he escorts us to three beds and a brolly right on the waters edge.

How do they do that?
How did he know I that I was coming on that day?

He wiped the beds for us, gave us one of those cute little pots to put our rubbish in and told us if we needed anything to give him a call and that he was there to make our holiday a memorable one.

We exchanged names and I offered to pay for the beds.

"You pay later " he says.

Another friendship has been forged.

We are in icmeler at the moment, earlier today we decided to find the old mosque near capt sinbads as we always loose sight of it. When we found it we ended up talking to one of the locals who asked where we were from. We talked for a little then, shook hands. To me it was genuine interest.
