Hi JT,

Jan who runs the pound said food isn't really what they need but the other items - leads, collars, treats and toys are always welcome because they are so expensive to buy out there and they will always come in handy but she did say they struggle to get the puppy food which can also be very expensive so that is why i said about those items.

Wendy :)

Just back from 2 weeks and visited the pound twice to walk 16 dogs all together. Met Jan who is doing a brilliant job trying to cope with the ever increasing number of dogs needing care. She (or one of the other volunteers) is usually there 9.30 until 11.30 for help with walking the dogs as they are so busy clearing up and feeding the dogs that there isn't much time left for walking - they are so grateful for any help with walking the dogs. When we arrived the second time one of the dogs was so excited it actually jumped over the fence and we had to find a bit of rope to use as a makeshift lead until Jan arrived. It was so gorgeous and all it wanted to do was sit on my knee and be stroked. Jan said they had around 50 dogs and although the council does help with feeding the adult dogs there is no help with vet bills and puppy food. She had just had to rescue a litter of puppies from the hills. Jan held a table top sale to try and raise money while we were there - she needs money to put a roof on part of the pound as well as money for the vet. We took some photos which I'll try to post later - still recovering from a 13 hour delay from Dalaman on Sunday morning.

Hi Shastie,

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed going to the pound. I loved going there and it was great to walk them and cuddle them, they are all so friendly. As you said Jan and Semi are doing a great job and we are trying to help them. I have made some leaflets and given them out at my local park and have now got loads of toys, treats, collars and leads which i am going to send over to Jan and as soon as Jan sends me the bank details i can start paying in donations that my doggie friends are giving me.
I am looking forward to seeing you photo's.

It's lovely to see so many members / customers / visits / guest / friends going over to Icmeler and taking an interest, it really must make the mayor proud of the the nationalities that visit for there care and concern.

John I was told a few weeks ago they were full with dogs and had neutered and tagged some and had to let them go back onto the streets, but maybe when Jan pops in she can clarify this ?

Hi this is Jan from the dogs home and yes i have found time to look at all the comments because today raining and we are keeping the dogs in , we now have some of our roofs on and some new pens so hope to be able to put all the dogs undercover before to long, the large dogs on the far side will be ok as they are much bigger and stronger and all ahve their own kennel, we do have a lot of puppies being dumped , and found and as we all know the end of the season was going to bring this , its a big problem they all ahve to be vacinated, wormed and treated for fleas etc, and it costs the thing we dont have MONEY, but dear Wendy has been fund raising and doing what ever she can, and we have recieved some realy good parcels, we will do it some how. Jusy want to say we never ever put dogs bacck out on to the street.once they come in to us they are treated as I said before , all dogs ae castrated and all bitches speyed when they are old enough, I have used up all my friends to foster the realy baby ones, if mine and Semins houses to full lol ! but come what may we keep them all, Thanks for all the nice things people have said try and keep you all updated .

Jan and all our dogs,
