The begging Mother with the baby has been around for years. I remember her many many years ago, it must have been one of her first babies. She was escorted away one night by the Police. She certainly does the rounds, going from Icmeler to Marmaris on the bus and vice versa. She became very aggitated when the Police tried to put her in the car, but she was obviously known to them. She seemed like a gypsy lady to me. Not a likeable character, nasty in fact! Keep clear, don't give her anything.

We've yet to go to icmeler, its our first visit in august, but last year in gumbet there were beggars who came into the bars, i shooed one old woman away but the door man - the one shouting people in - gave her money himself - saying she was an old woman, who deserved mone. Anyway there was no boys or children with scales, but all along the beach promanade were young men offering 'free' roses to women, once you took one you were expected to give them money

Most nights I seen the two young boys just down the road from Tansas, I just told them in Turkish that I had no money - they were always very pleasant.

Noticed one last year just up from the ICR office. He had a kitten as a "prop". Wonder what happened to that kitten when it stopped being cute - as if I can't guess!

After surveying the scale boys for some time, we came to a conclusion that some of them were doing it just for fun and some looked like they were being forced to do it (especially one little boy). Some nights we saw these older boys happily run to buy ice cream after they "closed their shops" - must have been good day :D But there was this one little boy, whose uncle was sitting in the bushes on the beach and he was yelling instructions in very harsh tone. The boy looked very desparate, but due to the mean uncle we never gave any money to him. Poor kid....

I remember years ago it used to be much worse with woman begging with babies. I heard in Kusadasi a few year back that if a woman had a baby she used to "rent" her baby to other woman and they would use the baby to do shifts on the street begging and pay for her for using her baby. How bad!

How many 9 year olds do you know on £25 an hour?

think we're in Icmeler the same time as you bighands, how about you lend us the scales so my daughter can take them down to the canal or prom - of course we'll have to negotiate how much commission you'd charge from the profits hahaha

Hi everyone, we have just returned from two wonderful weeks in Icmeler, and we saw the young boys with the weighing scales on the prom in the evening when we were out walking. We very politely said 'No thanks to one of the children who jumped out in front of us, only to be growled at!!! Needless to say we did not give him any money.

Its worth a couple of Lira just to hear them say "Ello Darlin" in a London accent! PMSL Last time i was there i gave one an icecream instead, he was delighted.

We always buy a few bags of sweets from the supermarkets and give them to the kids instead of money, that way the adults don't get anything out of it.

I've always been a soft touch and on our first night I handed out 5 lira each to every one I came across

No wonder their faces lit up!

The cheeky devils said, "See you tomorrow"....and the next night one remembered me and said, "Tonight you can weigh for free".
