Hi Guys

Going to Icmeler for first time beginning Aug - is it best to take Sterling Travellers Cheques or Lira?

I've also got some Euro traveller cheques left over from last year - will I be able to cash them at supermarket?

Great Forum - found so much info that's going to come in useful! In particular about the toilet / bidet - couldn't stop laughing at the comments

Thanks

I only change about £30 to lira here to start me off, then use the supermarkets in resort you will get a higher exchange rate, if taking Sterling Travellers Cheques change them in the supermarkets not in exchange offices, they will also change your leftover euro cheques.

Hello
Just joined the forum after returning from our third trip to Icmeler, we used to change our cheques at the Yapi Kredi bank but this year we were told they could only change up to 50 pounds. So we went to cedac exchange shop were we were charged £12 for changing £200. I urge people to boycott these exchanges as they just rip people off, we went back to our apartments who changed them and got the same rate as if we had changed cash. If we had known this we would never had gone to the exchange in the first place, as we were advised not to change money in the apartments by the rep on our transfer from the airport . Fat lot they know!.
Also be very aware of the overcharging on sunbeds on the beach, we went one day and was charged 5 lira which has been the usual charge before but on returning another day at the same beach area they tried to charge me 10 lira. I told them were to go and he agreed 5 lira. Mind you it came back on him as the next day we took 6 other people down with us and he only got 5 lira off them also.
I still love the place but they seem to be looking to rip you off more than in previous years.
Thank you. :D :D

Most of the sun beds are free on the beach if you buy something from the cafe/bar on that part of the beach. Always ask. If the answer is no, haggle. I've never paid more than 2 TL and that was before I knew they could be free.

We found that the Arslan supermarket, opposite the Loveboat had a slightly better rate than Best and the supermarket under ICR offices, while we were there in July, but that was for sterling, don't know if it was better for traveller's cheques.

Hi we used supermarket under ICR for changing both cash and TC no charge, also I noticed when I withdrew english money from the ATM my bank hasn't charged me for this withdrawal so this is what I'll be doing in future and then changing that into lira at the supermarkets :)

We put a warning on the forum about the exchange place under ICR office 3 years ago, we also made everyone we spoke to whilst there aware of his tactics and warned them to steer clear, I cant believe the sly g*t is still operating.

a bit of confusion here. madmackem is talking about the exchange office which rip you off with commission charges, while the supermarket under the ICR offices give you a good exchange rate. we used the supermarket all the time a couple of weeks ago as well as the supermarket across from the Romance Palace, with no problems.

For others the supermarket's name across the road from the Romance is "The BEST supermarket"
