I'm with Gene on changes, when we first went to Icmeler I had to push Margo's wheelchair in the road, most of the pavements were crap, also the promenade is now much better for wheelchairs, mind you at my age pushing the bleeding thing is hard work.

hope you're talking about the wheelchair there George and not your beloved  :)

back to topic though, I think I was caught up initially in the winter paranoia after Icmeler withdrawal set in - now I've seen some pics, read Rami's explanations etc I'm quite looking forward to seeing the changes next year

The artist's impression of the water feature/fountain at the Deniz Kapisi end of the beach looks very impressive!!

Interesting times ahead methinks ..........

Icmeler has certainly NOT been destroyed - yes, there have been changes, but as others have pointed out, change is inevitable in all walks of life and isn't necessarily a bad thing. I'm sure Icmeler will still have that special charm and appeal that we have all come to love.

I am a bit surprised by the message about Erdems its a bit extreme raising it to the ground just to have a few kitchens modifications. (it was Erdems and Caf'e Annes in the pictures was'nt it?)

I have been to Icmeler in the close season and the Erdem Cafe looked just like it did in the picture because there is nothing to see once the tables, chairs and brollies have gone.
I understand the kitchens are being modified and no doubt bussiness will be resumed again at the start of the new season.
Lets all stop being melodramatic, alterations are takeing place and Icmeler will be a lot better for it.

We have been going to Icmeler for 17yrs now and have seen it expand beyond all recognition, but everyone loved it the way it was and my only fear now is that with less bars and restaurants to choose from is this a way of pushing prices higher, we have seen prices increase so much over the last 6 yrs that it is no longer cheap to go to icmeler and this year we only went in june instead of our usual june and september visit, we have just come back from the caribbean after spending a wonderful 2 weeks in an all inclusive hotel which is really the size of an estate here in england, with 9 restaurants, numerous bars right on a magnificent beach, drinks and food 24/7 service beyond belief and all for £900 for 2 weeks - so with air fares increasing and you can no longer get cheap air fares to turkey unless you fly with turkish airline in middle of night and only get 13 nights and on top of that your transfer, your hotel or apartment etc... this can add up to 700 pounds plus there is no way you can eat and drink all you could ever want for another 200pounds for 2 weeks, so with a recession and people looking at the pound in their purse it could stop a lot of people going back to the place they love and call their second home so this mayor is an idiot....as much as we have friends who are like family there, and friends we meet every year there if this is to be the case then we shall be going all inclusive caribbean in the future where the weather is 33 degrees all year round and you can go in winter too. Sorry for all the people who have lost their livlihoods and the waiters etc... who work to feed their families who will no longer be able to go there to work, also what about the beach outside the erdem, coco beach and cafe anne, who is going to serve drinks there, or is the mayor going to put on his apron and serve the people food and drink s on the beach himself HO HO HO - well it is xmas???

I like the idea of changes sometimes its for the better sometimes for the worse. There were so many empty bars hopefully for the ones that are still standing will be busier and need more staff. I look forward to these changes and see how Icmeler develops over the next year or so. I like being able to pick and choose where I eat & drink on holiday so all inclusive isn't for me but hey wouldn't it be dull if we were all the same :). Roll on August/September 2010 so I can see these changes for myself.

everyone knows that the prices in the resort have gone up, but we dont just go on holiday to icmeler because its cheap,we also go because of the friends and the fun icmeler brings, and at the end of the day the prices are not that dear anyway, still cheaper than england, i mean we just been out for a meal had a peppered steak each with a beer and desert and it came to 43.60 for what i can only say was a great meal in england but nothing compared to what we would get in icmeler for under half the price of what we pay here, and as for cloths and other things i honestly dont think anybody goes to icmeler just for the cloths, so i dont think i will be tempted to go all inclusive in the caribbean
just because of a little price hike.i will just save that little more spending money for next year :D

Icmelers income is from tourism and for that reason things must be done to improve it for us tourists.Without tourism Icmeler would not survive. Aside from that it will be difficult for all those people who have previously made their (and their families) living by working in Icmeler for the summer season. I am sure we are all aware that away from the tourist areas in the inner regions of Turkey extreme poverty exists. The Mayor is a political figure and whatever he is doing must surely be for the good of the Turkish people through the economy. So I would hope that whatever is done will be for the enhancement of Icmeler and I too hope it will not become too expensive and out of my reach.I appreciate the fact that I am very privileged to be able to afford to take holidays in Turkey, many of my friends and neighbours are not.We are still in recession and people are still losing jobs.

Whilst prices are not the be all of going on holiday to Icmeler of course it plays a part, particularly for those with families. Prices have increased over the years and although they are still reasonable people may be tempted to go to other cheaper places to try something different, eg Croatia, Bulgaria.

As tourism is such an important factor with the Turkish economy, they need to be careful they do not price themselves out of the market, which to an extent Spain and Greece have done

And how many of us dream of a Caribbean holiday, especially at the AI price quoted in the recent posts

Well having never been to Turkey before i cant comment on the changes but i have been to the carribean and south america on AI and although very nice if all you want to do is eat and drink they can be very restrictive regards local food people etc . The price is good but variety is the spice of life so rollon summer 2010 and let the new adventure begin

well said TIRED MUM i think if i ever did go all inclusive then i would be bored and sick of food and drink by the time the 2 week is up,maybe icmelers all inclusives would not be to bad as you can always wine and dine out side of the hotel in one of many bars and restraunts , but these places like the caribbean and dominican republic , they are all iclusive as the resorts are to dangerous to walk around at night and in icmeler this is not the case , so icmeler has something for everyone
