We went to Gumbet a couple of years ago, never again, all I did was compare to my beloved Icmeler, and it didn't come anywhere close. The food was awful, we ate at different restaurants every night and they were all as bad as each other. At least going to Icmeler we know we love the hotel we go to (Golmar Beach), we have never had a bad meal and the atmosphere is just idyllic. Don't think I'll ever stray again!

Yes its very easy.Head back to marmaris, then back towards dalaman airport on the main road. When you are nearing the junction where you turn right for the airport (approx 10 minutes away from the airport) you will see a sign for hisoronu which is basically straight on.Its about another hours drive but the views are wonderful. You can go through the tunnel in the mountain or up and over.Hope this helps.good luck.

Our first Turkish holiday was to Marmaris the following year we went to Gumbet was not a patch on Marmaris, but had not holidayed in Icmeler had only gone there for the day and a day trip tells you nothing as everything is rush rush.

Yes, we went to Hisaronu 2 years ago for a 2 week holiday. Although it's very beautiful, we missed Icmeler. So we checked out after 3 days and got a taxi to Icmeler for the remainder of our holiday - and so glad we did, we had a great time. Costly though

Must say though, we would rather go to another resort in Turkey to one anywhere in Spain.

Does anyone know what altincum is like. Property is very cheap there, just wondered what it would be like.

yeah been to a few places, altinkum, side, twice to kusadasi, wasnt so keen on side, was mainly full of german but that was a few years ago, they were trying to make it more for english. I loved kusadasi it was fantastic but I was 15 and 16 when I last went, not sure if its still like it was. I've been to icmeler more than anywhere else in turkey and I've got to say nothing beats it.

I like Altinkum i've been about 7 or 8 times, although i haven't been for 9 years as i've been trying other places in Turkey etc, seemingly Altinkum is very big now, hotels, flats, houses being built everywhere and i read somewhere not long ago it was getting compared to Blackpool, but i honestly couldn't comment on that as its been a while since i've been there.

Altinkum

Postby JayJay » 18 Mar 2008 17:06

We have been going to Icmeler for several years now, sometimes twice a year. :D

Last year we decided to try another resort, Altinkum. It was like a building site! lots of new apartments and blocks being built. Not sure if it was just us, but we didn't feel safe walking back to our hotel at night.

We spent the whole time pining for Icmeler!

So we are going to stick with Icmeler - Once you have been there - NO where else compares! :!:

Our first holiday in Turkey was in Marmaris and we loved it. We visited Icmeler one day whilst there and it poured and poured and poured with rain. No one was about, the beach was empty and uninviting and we returned to Marmaris wondering what all the fuss was about. It wasn't until the following year during a second stay in Marmaris that we returned for the day to visit our son who was staying there. The sun was shining and it was absolutely beautiful. We fell in love with the place instantly and now thoroughly dislike Marmaris. A few years have passed since our first stay in Icmeler and we have moved on to Turunc but always return for a visit to Icmeler whilst staying there.
